Weight loss wagering initiatives and diet contests offering monetary rewards to those who meet weight goals over other cash-contenders are all the rage among individuals and employee groups, alike, with both women and men partaking in these profitable pound-shelling programs.
There are compelling findings from a first-of-its-kind collaborative study cited by HealthyWage. To date more than 100,000 individuals and more than 500 companies and organizations have participated in HealthyWage’s innovative and effective wellness programs, which have facilitated multiple 100+ pound weight loss/financial gain success stories (available for interview).
“We anticipate more employers to offer these awards in an effort to help control health care costs while also improving the health of employees,” says lead author Jeffrey T. Kullgren, M.D., M.S., M.P.H., health services researcher in the VA Center for Clinical Management Research and the division of general medicine in the U-M Medical School.
