Your home office may be built for work, but that doesn’t mean you have to keep it drab and dull. An enhanced space can lead to more productive days and reduce the risk of occupational health issues.

1. Make Your Space More Fun and Exciting

Gone are the days when people just had their small putting mats, though you can still have one if you wish. These days, people prefer to have something like a jukebox in the corner or a basketball hoop on the wall. Other people prefer to have their walls lined with their favorite posters or pop art. Whatever you choose, make sure that your office can show its fun side as well as its serious side.

2. Get the Right Chair for Your Back

While working at a traditional office can mean less ergonomic furniture that leads to back problems, you shouldn’t have to accept that for your own home office. Since you’ll be spending at least six hours a day in this chair, you’ll want something comfortable and sturdy. Having something that can recline or lean forward also wouldn’t go amiss. Studies have shown that better desk chairs can lead to more productive workers, so you shouldn’t skimp on a chair that’s less ergonomic. Having said that, you can find perfect chairs at reasonable prices.

3. Look at Storage Items for Your Desk

A cluttered desk may be a sign of a strong and busy mind, but there’s no denying that clutter makes finding what you need a lot more difficult. If you’re digging through all your stuff wondering if you threw something away, that’s time you’re spending not working to your full potential. Take a look at storage items like bins, desk caddies, and even glass jars. You’ll spend more time being productive, and it’ll be a lot easier to do your job without constantly looking for lost items.

4. Think About a Yoga Mat for Your Office

This may seem like an odd choice for your home office, but it’s a good idea to improve your posture and ensure your body stays flexible during down-time. Even many large corporations now offer yoga as a way to keep their employees fit. Yoga’s good for the body, and there are many videos that you can watch online to get started. Yoga mats are quite affordable, but you can also choose a yoga wheel for a little extra money.

5. Improve Your Space with Some Hardy Plants

Whether or not you have a green thumb, having office plants has been proven to make our air cleaner and reduce office stress. Some psychological studies have shown that plants can even improve productivity. If you’re a beginner, your best options are hardy succulents or aloe vera plants. These only need sparse watering and can stand up to tough conditions, so they’re perfect for the home office worker whose mind is focused on other things. If you’re more adept, then you can consider some flowers that can perk the room up with their lovely scent.

There are many other ways to enhance your office, but these five are the best to make your space more relaxing while increasing your productivity. All of these will make working from home a lot better than working in your old office.
