The first weekend of Sundance 2015 was filled with fabulous movie screenings and parties, but one major standout event was the 2015 Catdance Film Festival that took place at the Sky Lodge. Presented by Fresh Step® Litter and hosted by actress and animal advocate Nikki Reed, the event screened cat-inspired short films competing in the Catdance Film Festival finals for the coveted 2015 Golden Litter Scoop and $10,000. With all of the tasty appetizers, delectable cocktails, kitty face painting, and cute kittens available for adoption, Catdance proved to be the perfect event for all of Sundance 2015's cat lovers and movie fanatics.
After the screening of the cat film finalists, Nikki Reed bestowed the Catdance Film Festival grand prize to Alana Grelyak and her "French CATastrophe" film. This marks Grelyak's third year as a Catdance finalist and her first year as the grand prize winner. Grelyak is the primary writer, musical composer, and an actor for the CATastrophes Web Series. She works to help cats find homes via this web series and her humor blog, CatInTheFridge.com.
On the red carpet, Nikki Reed caught up with Home Business Magazine about the cat-tastic event. She was happy to share what inspired her to help rescue furry feline friends.
"I have been an animal rights advocate my whole life," Nikki said. "When I was a little kid, my mom gave me this message that anything that needed a home, a warm place to sleep, or a temporary pad was welcome. We fostered, rehabilitated, and re-homed anything we could, which remained with me into my adult years. My mom actually lives in my guesthouse because we do so much fostering together. I guess it is just a general love for not just cats specifically, but animals altogether."

The talented Twilight actress went on to share how more people could get involved in cat rescue.
"This event is sponsored by Fresh Step Litter, and what is beautiful is that all of the cats here are up for adoption, as well as many, many more," she said. "You can go to FreshStep.com to adopt them. I am also wearing a beautiful cat ring that is available for auction at FreshStep.com. It has 14 carats of blue sapphires and was created by designer Ashley Morgan.
She went on to discuss the great work that Fresh Step Litter has done to help rescue cats.
“Fresh Step is such a great company," she said. "They’ve donated over 2.5 million dollars to the ASPCA over the years and their whole goal is really to help spread awareness around the Million Meow Mission."
