Valentine’s Flowers on a Budget

The Big Date may be a ways away, but it’s never too early to plan for the day! All across the globe, tables will be booked, plans will be made. Some will book special manicures, shampoos, and highlights. Others are looking for the perfect surprise. It is a time of year when romance is rekindled, as much for the little thoughtful things as well as for the sappy cards and romantic gestures.

It is possible to enjoy the evening without breaking the bank or your budget to create happy memories, year after year. And should anything go “not to plan”, just hug each other tightly and thank each other for being in it together.

Alternatives to the Big Night Out

We all love a big romantic gesture, but don’t feel the need to “hate like” someone else’s moment, secretly wishing it would happen to you. With the right person, sometimes all it takes is to see their smile, knowing it is just for you. Remember to be a little selfish, and if you don’t want to share your bliss with anyone else, why not have a romantic night in instead?

You can cook together or order in. Put on the music you both love to dance to together, whether that is ‘I Just Called To Say I Loved You”, “Lady In Red”, a Barry White or Lionel Ritchie hit or something else. You can also set the tone with a sparkly fresh room and glass of your favorite drink. Whether you cook or order in, play silly word games, or watch a movie; there are many special times to be had.

Why not also make a new Valentine’s tradition you can both enjoy for many years to come? Perhaps even verse your own annual, “How do I love thee? Let me count the ways” to remind you both of all the special moments throughout the year. From walking hand in hand to cleaning the yard or washing the car, being genuinely grateful for the care and attention you give each other sometimes just needs a little moment of attention. Valentine’s Day is the perfect day for that.

Flowers Trump Everything

The one thing perhaps foremost on every person’s mind running up to Valentine’s Day is what flowers to get those they love. Some say the fascination with flowers combines both the sheer beauty with their scent, the reminder of glorious warm days in the depth of winter. It’s no wonder that Valentine’s Day accounts for much of the profit for florists, some of whom put up their prices in anticipation.

From a secret sweetheart to Mums, Grans, Aunties, and Sisters, choosing the right flowers can feel almost impossible to do on a budget. With a bit of planning and forethought, even those with a very long list can make sure that everyone on their list gets something that they will appreciate on the day.

Sweetheart Roses Last Longer Than One Night

On Valentine’s Day though, for the one you really love, roses are a good choice. Some florists will now deliver a single rose or a few roses in a vase which can be kept as a cherished reminder. Of course, there is then the decision as to the best color. Traditionally, choose white for the purity of your love, yellow for joy and happiness, and of course, red for passion. Pale pinks signify grace and admiration, whilst lavender signals love at first sight or enchantment.

Whichever color takes your fancy, remember to take a great photo with the flowers to provide a constant reminder of a perfect night. And for those who love to make their own potpourri, rose petals are a perfect ingredient. Simply dry out the individual petals for a few days and add to your existing display or start afresh with a new batch and add further petals, fragrant herbs, and even orange peels. A drop or two of a complementary essential oil can help to increase the fragrance.

Pulling It Together to Make a Night to Remember

Kindling and rekindling your love on Valentine’s Day can create its own kind of stress and pressure. Instead of trying to make it a perfect night, set it up to be a happy night together. If you can’t be together, and many people can’t, steal a few minutes away to send a special text, and perhaps leave a voice message.

Not every Valentine’s Day needs to be a romantic getaway, with huge gestures. Some use it as a night to renew their commitment to each other. Others use it as a way to learn about different traditions from around the world. It will be no surprise that many decide to pop the question on the night. Some decide to get married on Valentine’s Day too. However you decide to spend your special Valentine’s Day, just remember the three important words to remember.

You get what you focus upon, so if you focus on giving what you really want to receive, building a future on real affection and care for one another can make the perfect foundation on which to build a life together. Things rarely go “perfectly” and dealing amicably with the little things which go wrong will provide a solid foundation for your future relationship. Enjoy the Big Date!
