Two Burning Man Attendees Create Glitterati Reversible Sequin Masks to Fight Mask Shortages in Hospitals

Glitterati Sequin Masks

As coronavirus cases continue to surge, hospital workers worldwide are running out of safe masks to wear while they treat infected patients. There has also been such confusion from the media on whether regular people should wear masks or not. In light of all this, serial entrepreneurs Katherine Fleischman (a publicist) and Andrea Rubio wanted to help educate the public, especially since people do not realize they are infecting others if they are asymptomatic. They created Glitterati Sequin Masks–glitzy masks people love wearing!

Katherine and Andrea met at Burning Man last year and had a splash of creativity and made lemonade out of lemons while quarantining at home. Prior to Glitterati Masks, so many surgical masks people used looked exactly that: surgical, depressing, and plain. They also wanted to create Glitterati Masks because their nurse friends complained about mask shortages in hospitals and said N-42 masks should be saved for those on the front lines of fighting the virus, as opposed to the general public buying those types of masks in bulk.

Using Katherine’s marketing and PR skills and Andrea’s design skills, they chose fabrics that would make sense in terms of ease and style. Made from sequins, which are reversible in color, you can choose the shade you want to flaunt depending on your outfit, all while staying safe. You can also feel the comfort on the other side of the mask, which is lined with soft jersey T-shirt material that doesn’t slip off the face.

The masks fit snugly for a bike ride, walking, running, or other activities, all held together with neon elastic that wraps around the ears. This DIY fashion accessory was created with safety, fashion, and inspiration in mind, with prices ranging from $20-$50 per mask. There are also many different colorful options to choose from!

The two burner girls hope to inspire other women to create what they are passionate about, especially in a time where one should be reflecting inward, spending time on themselves, creating new things that did not exist before, and always doing things they love with the time they have on this planet. Stay safe during coronavirus, stay healthy, and stay home for the greater good of the world. Please visit Etsy.com for orders.
