Hopefully, we’re not planning too far ahead for the summer, but it’s always nice to have something to look forward to. Fashion trends come and go, but the style is forever. If you’re looking for some new ways to spice up your wardrobe this summer, then you’re in for a treat. There are a lot of new trends heading our way, and we’re so excited about them!

Fashion is ever-changing and is endlessly fun to play with — no matter the season. It just so happens that summer is the season in which you can have some of the most fun with your wardrobe (and show the most skin if you’re into that). So, with summer not too far away now, think about getting rid of some of your older, more worn clothes and let’s start shopping.

If you’ve been watching the trends for the upcoming summer, then you probably already know a lot about what’s to come. If you haven’t, then this is your time to get prepared. Grab your sunscreen, your sunhat, your best dress and a bathing suit, and all your best styling intuition because it’s about to get hot and stylish.

1. Oversized Sleeves

Oversized sleeves are showing up in all forms for the summer but especially attached to feminine dresses and blouses. It gives the extra volume we need for these pieces to be flowy and romantic. It’s also a great way to cover up your shoulders’ and upper arms’ exposure to the sun. Never forget your sunscreen, nonetheless!

Styling this trend is all about emphasis. Don’t take away from the fact that your sleeves are crushing it and have a body of their own. If you want to keep a feminine shape, try a cinched belt and add simple earrings and a cool pair of shades. You can show up to any number of bridal showers, brunches, and evening soirees in this trend.

2. Rocker Chic

We’re seeing a lot of masculine combat boots this upcoming season, especially paired with feminine and flowy dresses. We love a trend that covers all spectrums of gender stereotypes, especially when we get to play with those stereotypes. This trend is ideal for those of us who want a femme look with an edge. It’s also a comfy trend — which we’re so glad is showing up in waves in this new decade. Who said we needed to sacrifice comfort for fashion?

Styling this trend can be relatively easy. All you need is a flowy dress, which is ideal for a summer trend and gives your body room to breathe in the hot sun. While boots can be a bit of an ordeal in the summer (sweaty feet!), it can also be a great call if you want to stay comfortable and covered. We don’t want to see any tick bites in your future while you’re going on a woodsy stroll. This outfit is best for a concert or festival outing and can be great for a backyard BBQ or bonfire with friends.

3. Hip to Be Square

Square-toed heels are all the rage recently. These kicks give you room for your feet and can give an angular edge to your already stunning outfit. Shoes are super important in the summertime. It’s not all about sandals and flip flops; sometimes, your heels can be real showstoppers. The square-toed trend we’re mostly seeing in heels and boots, which will be perfect when you’re navigating the sidewalk, trying to get to your next rooftop patio. Oh, how we miss the sun when it’s gone.

Pair this trend with high-waisted pants that come just above the ankle, a flouncy skirt, a mini-dress, or cigarette pants. These can be especially bold when worn in a vibrant color like yellow, green, or even orange. Yes, your shoes can be the focal point of your outfit, and we’re definitely here for it.

4. Neon Everywhere

Neon is back! This is a great trend for summer because it’s when we can be as vibrant as we want to be (though, to be real, you can also do this year-round). Neon is back in all its facets. You’ll see it in footwear, sunglasses, boots, jumpsuits, dresses — all of it! If you want to go all-in, then you can mix your neon with some even more vibrant details. Try out a neon shirt with some foil printing in metallics. You’ll definitely get your message across — which is likely that you’re a seasoned fashionista.

Be careful about over-styling your neon, though, though it’s nice to be seen, no need to be able to be seen from a mile away. You can try some color blocking in order to subdue your neon. Try pairing a neon pink with black for a bit of a doll-chic look. Your neon can be the focal point of the outfit, even if it’s flying under the radar. Pair your orange neon shades with an all-white ensemble to give a bit of elegance with trendy at your next backyard dinner party (just be careful with the pasta if all that white is dry clean only.

5. All-white Angelic

Speaking of all white, this is another trend set to hit us in summer 2020. At the runways, we saw a ton of looks that were meant to establish a “blank slate” on the body. This is an elegant way to approach summer. With the power of color’s influence, you can stand out, but so can a neutral shade. You might be scared to wear all white due to spillage, but you’ll be ok, we promise. Just be careful.

When it comes to the beauty of an all-white ensemble, you can achieve this look in a number of ways. While an all-white jumpsuit can really show everybody who’s boss, you can also achieve quite an ethereal look with an all-white dress, especially if it’s flowy and romantic. For double trend points, you can do separates, like a crop top with shorts.
