Working from home can be a dream, with flexible hours and the comfort of your own home. But these things can only be enjoyable if you have the right furniture. An uncomfortable workstation can quickly turn working from home into a nightmare, not to mention the challenge of finding the right space to work. Most home furniture was never intended to support a workspace; as a result, dining tables get cluttered, closets are disorganized, and work never really ends because there is always something lying around. With linear telescoping slides, you can effectively transform regular furniture into an efficient workspace that literally disappears when you are done. Here’s how you can use them.

Turning a Closet Into a Disappearing Office

It might sound impossible, but it isn’t: you can turn a spare closet into a full-extension workstation with a pull-out desk and full-extension slides. All you need to do is mount a 25-30-inch-deep shelf at your required height and add drawers underneath for files and supplies.

The solution for technical drawers is to use full-extension slides; these provide full access to the entire space, so there’s no awkward leaning to reach the back. When you’re done, slide everything back into place and close the doors. For best results, use heavy-duty slides rated at least 100 or 150 lb to support the weight of your system and supplies without sagging. And just like that, you’ve created a professional setup that disappears in seconds.

Making Shared Furniture Work Double Duty

In homes where there isn’t a spare closet lying around, regular furniture can double as a workspace, but not in the way you think. Coffee or dining tables that work as desks can have slides installed underneath to prevent constant resetting.

For dining tables, you can install a panel up to 18 inches long underneath that extends to reveal a workspace for your laptop. And when dinnertime rolls around, you slide it back under; no need for rearranging. The same concept applies to the coffee table.

Create Mobile Workstations

Mobile workstations are perfect for studio apartments, parents who need to watch their kids while working, or anyone who needs to move between rooms during the day. Here, a standing desk is perfect; you can convert a cart into one.

Add a wooden surface and attach your slides beneath. You want a cart with lockable wheels to prevent it from rolling away while you work, along with locking slides to prevent your drawers from doing the same. Movable workstations are a convenient way to keep working while you attend to things around your home.

How to Keep the Work Contained

Working from home may be convenient, but it’s easy to lose track of time and spend more time than you should. With linear slides, you keep work contained even in your home office. Use slides to make every surface retract—from keyboard trays that slide into desks to monitor panels that tuck into cabinets.

Physically closing your workspaces helps you mentally clock out and prevents living spaces from feeling like offices. With this, you can create an effective work-life balance even while working from home.

With linear slides for home offices, even the tightest home can become an effective workspace that appears when needed and disappears when it’s time to clock out.
