Did you know that in the U.S. alone, one out of six children go to bed hungry? Over 13 million children are food insecure across America, leading to being sick or even hospitalized more often, impairing a child’s ability to perform or concentrate in school, and higher levels of emotional or behavior problems.
Jonathan Stone and Dawn Elyzabeth – co-founders of Sababa Water – recognized this dire situation and became inspired to do something about it. Hosting a local Las Vegas radio show where they learned about the overwhelming facts of childhood hunger, Stone and Elyzabeth started Sababa in their own backyard. Every product you buy, the small business will donate a meal to a food insecure child in your community. Committed to helping children now while making a difference for future generations in the community, the Sababa Way is simple: end child hunger together.
“We are a One into One company dedicated to helping the kids in our own backyards,” explains co-founder Jonathan Stone. “If you buy a bottle of water in San Diego, the meal is going to go to a child in need in San Diego.”
With humble beginnings selling cases to local natural food stores, cafes, and yoga studios, Sababa has since grown to selling pallets and is moving their bottles by the truckload. So far in 2017, Sababa has provided over 150,000 meals to children in the U.S. More recently, a store in Calexico immediately sold out of their 1,000 bottle run because the community wanted to help feed their local children.
“People are looking for ways to participate,” said Stone. “Our goal is to rally our communities to care for the future generation while taking care of their own health.”
A natural water that boasts a pH of 9+ that is maintained from the time of bottling until it is opened, Sababa’s high alkaline water supplies the same benefits as drinking regular water. For every bottle of their crisp, active mineral water that’s sold, they donate a meal to a child in that same community. On a mission to help build a stronger, happier generation by ending childhood hunger, Sababa has even teamed up with celebrities who have a passion for lending a hand in this important cause.
Expanding their efforts to feed food insecure children, Sababa joined forces with Tony Robbins’ 100 Million Meals Challenge. For the third year in a row, the award-winning speaker and life coach Robbins is asking the nation to match his contribution of 20 million meals to the Feeding America network.
“This campaign hits close to home for us,” said Sababa co-founder Jonathan Stone. “We’re excited to be able to donate the equivalent of 50,000 meals through the challenge, and hope others will join the Feeding America network to raise awareness.”
Donating meals for every bottle of water sold, Sababa also wrote a check for 25,000 meals – with Tony Robbins matching that with cash. Together, the two socially conscious organizations contributed to 50,000 meals for children in need.
Taking the cause one step farther, Sababa also donated money to the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank, Second Harvest Food Bank in Orange County and to Feeding San Diego with a total contribution close to 100,000 meals.
Meaning everything will be good; wonderful; and positivity, Sababa provides an opportunity for people to give back without changing their habits or daily routines. Because of the constant customers, Sababa has made a serious impact for children across the nation.
“We realized if we were going to create about 40 million meals every single day, this would have to be a different kind of format, Elyzabeth explains. “So we looked at how we could do it so full communities would get involved.”
The following number of meals have been donated to children in the U.S.:
California: 123,036 meals
Nevada: 12,192 meals
New York: 12,888 meals
With a total of 148,116 meals across the U.S., this small business is making a huge impact for kids in every community. Together, we can create change and build empathy. Now is time we take care of our future generations – the Sababa Way.
