After working her corporate job in the digital marketing space for 22 years, Sydney Allen decided to take a chance and reinvent her career by following her longtime dream of creating a business on her own terms.
Allen founded Storybook Blankie, a.k.a. Go Tell It on the Blankie, in July of 2016. Allen planned to change the way stories are told to children by embroidering them on the edges of silk baby blankets and pillows, an idea that sets her apart from other custom embroidery companies.
“We’re innovating the way to tell a story,” says Sydney Allen, owner of Storybook Blankie.
Before she could get the business up and running, Allen needed equipment to make her dream happen. Having never started a business before, she didn’t know where to begin. Luckily through Beacon Funding, a leading equipment financing company, Allen was able to get financing on a single-head embroidery machine as a start-up. The start-up financing provided by Beacon Funding helped Allen hit the ground running.
Allen quickly found her niche in the industry and took advantage of her business’ unique services.
“What makes our company different is we are not in the monogramming business. We are crafting love stories in fabric and words to tell the stories of the lives of people that want our product,” Allen says.
Her blanket creations are sewn locally and meant to be worn and dragged around as any child would a favorite blankie.
Storybook Blankie’s customers are impressed with the quick turnaround on their orders. The blankets are produced in 3-5 days with the help of Allen’s 15-needle embroidery machine.
Through her business, Allen also gives back by doing what she does best: creating blankets for children. With the help of her customers, Allen was able to create 50 blankets to be given to children awaiting adoption. She hopes that the blankets will bring the children love and comfort as they join their new families.
Allen’s swift success wouldn’t be possible without her financed machine and all the benefits that come with having extra money to use on what matters most. Allen and Storybook Blankie look forward to a bright future filled with soft blankets and happy customers.
