Minnesota Valley Surgery Center will be offering a public educational series to Burnsville and surrounding communities focusing on health related orthopedic topics. Presentations by physicians/surgeons will allow interaction and the opportunity to research available options in treating individual concerns. These presentations are free to the public with light refreshments provided.
The first presentation will be co-sponsored by Minnesota Valley Surgery Center and the Minnesota Board of Chiropractic Examiners. Mako: Robotic-Arm Assisted Surgery for Total Joint Replacement, presented by Robert Hartman, M.D., Twin Cities Orthopedics
Dr. Hartman was the first physician in the state of Minnesota to offer patients this state-of-the art technology for minimally invasive partial knee and total hip replacement. The Mako robotic-arm is controlled by the surgeon using three-dimensional computer imaging. The system is accurate to within less than 1-2 mm, providing significant benefits to both the patient and the operating surgeon. Minimally Invasive Spine Surgeries, presented by Eric Deal, M.D., Twin Cities Orthopedics
Dr. Deal is a Board Certified orthopedic surgeon specializing in spine surgery with offices in Burnsville and Eden Prairie. Many herniated discs in the neck and low back are safely performed as an outpatient. Dr. Deal will be presenting outpatient managed procedures including herniated discs of the neck and spine. Regardless of the spine problem that a patient may have, a period of conservative non-surgical care is completed before surgical options are considered.
Pain Management: Conservative Treatment Options, presented by Lon Lutz, M.D., Interventional Pain Medicine
Lon J. Lutz, M.D. DABPM is an anesthesiologist with board certification in both anesthesiology and pain medicine. Originally a pharmacist, Dr. Lutz attended medical school at the University of North Dakota. He completed his anesthesiology residency at the Mayo Clinic with additional training in neuroanesthesia and chronic pain management. He is currently an instructor for the Spine Intervention Society and has focused his medical practice on interventional pain management since 1991. With his decades of experience performing minimally invasive interventional pain procedures, Dr. Lutz will be discussing injection procedures. He will be focusing on how different injections are performed, when they should be utilized and their efficacy based on each patients diagnosis.
