One of the best ways to see what the future holds is to look back at the past. This especially holds true for plastic surgery. 2017 was a year of innovations, new technologies in the field, and lip treatments and eyebrow fillers as far as surgical trends go.
Like fashion and the beauty industry, the plastic surgery world also experiences booms and surges characterized by certain trends. These trends may be popularized by social media, reigning pop-culture figures, or sometimes both. Experts agree that social media has played a significant role in determining these trends that are now ruling cosmetic surgery fads around the world. While some trends like fat removal remain popular every year, there are some new trends seen this year as well.
The Top Cosmetic Surgery Trends This Year
Last year, lip augmentation and other lip treatments saw an unbelievable surge. While that hasn’t vanished, there are other trends in the industry which are expected to be on the rise this year. Read on to find out more about how things like cosmetic laser dermatology are in vogue today.
1. Eye Fillers
Eyebrow fillers were the norm for 2017. We are not saying that eye fillers have entirely substituted eyebrow fillers (since the two are quite different procedures), but they’re definitely gaining ground. While former procedures have worked on reducing bags from around the eyes, this procedure helps contour the area around the eyes. The forties and fifties are the ages when people tend to notice that their skin loses its elasticity. A process called fat grafting simply lowers the eyelid to merge naturally with the cheek and lower eyelid area.
2. The Laser Bra Lift
In what is being called ‘an internal bra’, this procedure is steadily gaining popularity in the cosmetic surgery world. Breast augmentation, reductions and lifts have all seen their day. It’s time for this revolutionary take on breast treatment which uses a CO2 laser to improve the elasticity of the skin on the breast without removing any excess skin. This is expected to give a fuller and perkier look.
3. Botox 2.0
This conspicuous product is making the rounds in the cosmetic surgery world, but only in the news. Nobody yet knows what this revolutionary product will be. Although Botox is still in extensive use, this next-gen Botox product is expected to eclipse the present Botox used on the market. It’s a wait and watch game till this much-anticipated product makes its debut.
4. Labiaplasty
That’s right. Labiaplasty or the process of reshaping the labia is a procedure that is on the rise this year in cosmetic surgery trends. This trend has been seeing a leap in numbers since 2016 when it experienced a 23 percent hike in procedures being implemented on women. The motive could be comfort and confidence as more and more women are letting go of the stigma and opting for it. Expert surgeons predict that labiaplasty is here to stay.
5. The Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty
We will admit that this term is a bit paradoxical. So, what is non-surgical rhinoplasty then? As mentioned earlier, social media has had a huge impact on the number of women — and men — going under the knife to achieve a desired look. However, not all have the same ability to endure pain or wait weeks for recovery, as is the case for surgical rhinoplasties. Hence, keeping up with the pace of present times, we now have non-surgical rhinoplasty which uses injectable hyaluronic acid fillers to change the shape of the nose in a matter of a few minutes! This procedure opens up nose treatments to a lot of people who want to remove imperfections or simply contour their nose without having to undergo the painful, surgical procedure.
6. Cosmetic Surgeries for Men
2016 saw that 13.8% of the total cosmetic surgeries performed were on men. What this number tells us is that the assumption that only women undergo cosmetic surgeries is now being shattered and the stigma is being worn down. This trend is expected to continue into 2018. Blepharoplasty, rhinoplasty, gynecomastia, liposuction, and hair transplantation were the most popular cosmetic surgeries among men. Men are now feeling more and more comfortable with giving shape (literally) to how they wish to look. This number is expected to be on the rise.
Overall, observations point towards practices in the cosmetic surgery market that depart from the conventional norm. Fast, effective and painless seems to be the desire. Stigmas are being worn down and more and more are embracing the practice. Even though the future can’t be entirely foreseen, we can make our guesses, can’t we?
