The Power of Opportunity & Positivity in Business

Kim Lorenz

Kim Lorenz is a knowledgeable, experienced entrepreneur based out of Bellevue, Washington. Over his career, he built two companies which sold to Fortune 500 companies, worked globally in philanthropic volunteer organizations, and recently has published his newest book titled Tireless. The pages of Tireless contain Kim’s own bounty of wisdom derived from the many experiences of his long career.

The following are some of the most key pillars of success that Kim Lorenz teaches his readers, and can be applied today by anybody looking to grow in their current profession or delve into a new one.

Opportunity & Positivity

From the moment that we wake up in the morning, opportunity occurs all around us. Kim attributes many of his successes (and the successes of others like him) to the ability to keenly sense opportunity in all daily situations.

Many of us operate within our own patterns of negative thinking, which leave us closed off to the opportunity that happens around us. Kim learned early on that cultivating a positive mindset not only frees us from our own needless blunders, but allows us to face each day with both eyes open wide to the opportunities that await. And when we do blunder, how to learn positive lessons from it.

Paying close attention to our own self-talk is one practical step that Kim advises his readers to take. Although science is still continuing to piece together a more whole understanding of how our subconscious works, there is a clear correlation between the thoughts we have and our brain’s response to the world around us.

According to Kim, cultivating a positive mindset frees us from our own needless blunders and allows us to face each day with both eyes open wide to the opportunities that await.

There are many reasons why a person may find themselves feeding their subconscious with negative self-talk. But intercepting this process and replacing those negative thoughts with positive, encouraging ones is essential in breaking through our boundaries as people.

Kim notes that nearly all successful company leaders became successful chiefly due to their ability to see a need that others around them could not see, and a belief in what they were doing. When our self-talk is positive in nature, we are much more likely to see opportunity around us and wholeheartedly believe in our own success.

This change in our perception will change our course of action in the world as well.

Out of the Box Thinking

Kim also discusses the importance of creative, out of the box thinking as a skill for professionals to foster.

Traditionally, creativity has been defined as a fusion between two psychological components: originality and functionality.

“You can’t be creative unless you come up with something that hasn’t been done before,” notes psychologist Dean Keith Simonton, PhD, of the University of California, Davis.

The American Psychological Association still aims to develop a more comprehensive definition of what “creativity” is. But Kim Lorenz asserts that “out of the box thinking” is a virtuous application of highly-creative problem solving.

While seeing opportunity is an enormous part of success in business, the application of what you do with that information is the X factor that can really separate business leaders.

Kim credits much of his own success to his ability to look at complex problems that he, his employees, his partners, or his customers had and create unique, functional solutions for them.

Seeing need and opportunity and marrying them with a creative solution has empowered Kim to achieve countless great things with his teams and create real change across the world.

Cultivating out of the box thinking is tricky to learn, but Kim emphasizes that it will make an employee indispensable and better their lives.

Making Better Decisions & Disciplining Yourself

Another core lesson that Kim Lorenz shares is that the decisions that you make every day are made better the more that you learn.

Kim states, “Simply training yourself to ask why something is done the way it is continues your learning process and can lead to discovery and greater knowledge.”

As you develop a whole understanding of a topic or a discipline, you start to see more opportunities associated with it. Thus, you begin to make even better decisions as to how you can affect change within that domain.

Taking the correct actions and adhering to them with a rigid discipline is a quality that differentiates many of the greatest professionals and leaders in our generation.

Tireless is a must-read for any executive or entrepreneur looking to better learn how to achieve the very best version of themselves.

Kim embodies an incredible teaching persona to guide his readers through the most important lessons he has gleaned during his long and accomplished career. Many of the situations and experiences that Kim braved brought about vital lessons in business, character growth, and how to benefit the world as a whole.
