Becoming a “YouTuber” is quickly becoming the childhood aspiration equivalent of “astronaut”. In fact, just ask any 11-year-old today, and they will patiently explain why the former is the bigger dream.
Of course, it’s not easy to succeed, and the majority fail, but the difference between having a career on YouTube and, say, aspiring to be a movie star, or, indeed, an astronaut, is that there is a wider net. Not everyone becomes a MrBeast, but nor do they need to.
YouTube and similar platforms like Twitch are full of micro-channels, with content creators covering all aspects of culture, history, economics, and so on. There are some big hitters – movies, video gaming, music, politics, tech, financials – but every niche topic you can think of is covered, from cosplaying to robotics.
Casino Streaming Is Surprisingly Popular
And there’s also casino streaming. It is a fairly niche topic, but it might surprise you to learn how popular it is. It is also one of unique challenges, including regulatory ones, so it is not the type of career pathway that you can just dive into with little thought. Indeed, there are so many pitfalls that it might not be a career to rely on. Yet, some do it, and we can lay out the circumstances of how they find success.
The first thing to note is that, yes, people enjoy watching online casino games for entertainment. It doesn’t necessarily have to be high stakes either. Celebrities like the rapper Drake are known for their casino streams, and they make it entertaining. Yet, we’d also say that the games, especially online slot games, have become more entertaining in their own right. There are many popular streamers who play for small stakes.
A lot of streamers are casino affiliate marketers, though it is not always the case that they brand themselves in that way. That means their goal is to promote casinos and encourage people to sign up using their affiliate links. From that, they will earn commissions. It’s worth noting that not all casino brands have affiliate programs, but many do.
Some of the streamers could certainly earn enough through ad money without needing the affiliate angle. For example, if you average 100K views per day on YouTube – not out of the question for a popular casino streamer – you will likely be taking in several thousand dollars per month, and a lot of these streamers are on multiple platforms, so it can add up.
Some Critics Call Transparency into Question
There is, of course, the glaring issue of your outgoings, i.e., the amount of money that you spend gambling. This is a veritable can of worms because it often leads to accusations that the streamers are not being transparent about their play. The house always wins eventually, so it does seem a bit ludicrous when these streamers suggest that they are simply lucky enough to continue to profit from their play. There is some evidence that some streamers are gifted the money they play with in return for showcasing a particular casino.
However, there are numerous headaches to deal with, too. For a start, there is the regulatory angle, both in terms of wider laws and policies set by specific platforms. YouTube recently changed its policies to prevent streamers from promoting sign-up links and bonuses on their streams, cutting off – or severely hampering – the affiliate revenue link. Some streamers have erred on the side of caution, never mentioning casino brands at all, and simply pointing viewers towards their personal websites where they can “find out more.”
Criticism also flies in for streamers promoting various unlicensed platforms, usually cryptocurrency-focused platforms. These platforms do not feel as restricted in their marketing tactics as regulated and licensed casino platforms, so they are often criticized for promoting streams that glamorize heavy gambling and fail to highlight any of the risks involved.
So, should you become a casino streamer? Probably not. While there is a lot of negativity around the activity, some streamers do it responsibly and transparently, and you can tell they are passionate about casino entertainment. Yet, with regulations and policies seemingly changing every day, it is also a minefield.
