Freedom Dress™ & Accessories Available for Preorder in Kickstarter Campaign for One Dress United, Oct 14-Nov 28, 2016 (Cyber Monday)
Her Worth International, a new women’s economic empowerment ministry, launches its first major project called One Dress United on Kickstarter, with the hope of funding production of the Freedom Dress™ with 100% of profits benefiting economically vulnerable women around the world, starting with a group in Haiti.
The campaign exceeded 25% funding in the first 48 hours. Backers can pledge to preorder The Freedom Dress™ as well as accessories handmade by the women of Jasper House Haiti, a ministry that educates and empowers women exiting the sex trade in Jacmel. The campaign funds the first order of dresses and will run through Cyber Monday (November 28, 2016). To contribute to the campaign go to Her Worth International.
The dress, designed by Nelson with the help of Apparel Consultant Nancy Simon, CEO of Get Sushi Designs in Portland, is a classic black shirtdress, featuring branded tab sleeves and a custom-designed fabric lining the yoke, featuring the words: “Compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, patience” repeated over and again, inspired by instructions found in the Book of Colossians which state, “Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.”
The dress will be made of Tencel® – a material much like rayon, but sustainably produced, resistant to wrinkling, and with a beautiful fluid quality.
“My hope is the dress will serve as a simple backdrop for a larger discussion about women’s worth and the power of our choices as consumers in the fight against human trafficking,” says Nelson.
The dress will retail for $169, but will be available at $94 for Early Birds during the Kickstarter campaign. 100% of profits from the sale of the dress will go to support the educational and vocational programs offered by Jasper House Haiti.
One Dress United is the latest entry in the burgeoning Freedom Business Movement and will help fight extreme poverty and exploitation of women in two ways. First, 100% of profits from the sale of the dress will be donated to ministries that rescue and restore women exploited in sex trade and sex slavery operations. Second, One Dress United will purchase accessories handmade by the women participating in these restoration programs, opening up a dependable, global channel of sales for the goods they create.
