A Seat Belt Solution is Born

Mompreneur Makes Buckling Up Easier Than Ever With MyBuckleMate

Meghan Khaitan (pictured here with her child) and her husband designed a seat belt buckle holder.

It all started when mompreneur Meghan Khaitan’s husband returned one day with their three kids and revealed, “They can’t buckle themselves!” After realizing that she and her husband couldn’t buckle up any better than they could, it got her thinking: Why not design a seat belt buckle holder that keeps floppy buckles propped up so kids could buckle up by themselves? With that, the idea of MyBuckleMate was born.

MyBuckleMate keeps back seat buckles propped up and easy to reach so buckling up is always a snap! No more buckles flopping around, falling into seat pockets, or getting wedged under booster seats — buckles always stay where you can easily reach them. It is the perfect seat belt solution for kids in booster seats and those with arthritis, special needs, or motor planning difficulties.

Prior to launching MyBuckleMate, Meghan and her husband worked in various fields; he in consulting and venture investments, and she in public relations and commercial real estate. Now they both manage MybuckleMate from their home; Meghan handles the marketing, sales, trade show, and day-to-day operations, and Anurag oversees the ecommerce, technology, and accounting aspects.

According to Meghan, MyBuckleMate is a “micro business that has been fully self-funded since day one” and “operates on a shoestring budget.” Their main business partners are their manufacturer, warehousing/fulfillment partner, marketing firm, and patent attorney, which are also all family-owned businesses from Meghan’s hometown of Green Bay and the DC metro area where they currently reside.

Meghan says the top advantages of running a home-based business are the low costs and flexibility. “No tolls, no commute, and we can be home when our kids go to school, return home, and when they are sick,” Meghan says. “We want our kids to see and experience how hard work and smart risk-taking are parts of life’s great adventure.”

Meghan and her husband utilize social media channels and work with public relations firm Hollywood Connections PR to promote MyBuckleMate to their primary customers: kids ages 4 and up, seniors, and people with special needs. The mompreneur says that their biggest business achievement is “bringing an entirely new idea successfully to market as an award-winning product.” Visit www.mybucklemate.com.
