Former Naval Ship Designers Launch Lovepop out of Harvard Innovation Lab

Lovepop, a 3D card company that combines engineering and imagination to add meaning to people’s lives, opened 2017 by selling their millionth card. January also was the first million-dollar month in company history.

The Lovepop growth story is a rapid one. This year, Valentine’s Day sales increased 500% from February 2016, and they just announced a $6 million Series A investment.

Co-founders and former naval ship designers, Wombi Rose and John Wise, launched Lovepop out of the Harvard Innovation Lab in late 2014. Lovepop has grown more than 7000% since that inception, and have built the world’s premier 3D paper design team. Lovepop cards are designed in Boston then hand-assembled in a dedicated facility in Vietnam, built by the company. Each card is created with slicegami™, the art meets science approach to design, incorporating the sliceform structure traditionally used in ship design with the paper folding of Asian kirigami. By opening the facility in De Nang, Vietnam, Lovepop is committed to keeping the art form in the hands of the craftspeople who know it best.

“We believe our success is directly related to our approach to make each Lovepop a personal gift with a personal message so each card brings meaning for both giver and recipient. Our passionate team is dedicated to creating designs that are just right for every occasion and relationship our customers’ lives,” said Wombi Rose, co-founder of Lovepop.

In December 2015 Lovepop appeared on Shark Tank, with just 300,000 in sales to date. They quickly earned Kevin O’Leary’s investment, and the company has done over 8.7 million dollars in sales since.

About Lovepop:

Co-founders and former ship designers, Wombi Rose and John Wise, adapted ship building with kirigami for their art meets science technique, and launched Lovepop in 2014.
