Manage Your Business and Life, But Make Sure to Manage Y.O.U. First!

As we approach the 4th quarter and this new fall season, I am reminded that since 2020 began, the way we approach the seasons are not the same.

They cannot be. There has been too much disruption this year. The business, socio-political, and economic landscapes have been a bit upside down, to say the least.

So, how can we manage disruption and uncertainty in a way that can sustain us? How can we sustain our work, our businesses, families, and communities?

To me, there are a few keys to managing to move through the business and social climate we are all finding ourselves in right now. The number one thing to manage or take care of is “You”, or the “Y.O.U”.

“Y” Stands for “You” — Take Care of You!

You need to be well, healthy, rested, and alert. Now more than ever, take time each day to exercise, walk, and get vitamin D, also known as sunlight!

Eat really well. Make sure you are eating “clean”. Have your fruits, vegetables, vitamins, and water, and ease off the junk food, sugars, carbs, and caffeine a little more. I am not saying to not have coffee or carbs, but ease off them and increase more natural foods. This means, when you go to the grocery stores, stay on the perimeters of the store, where veggies, fish, meats, and healthier food options are.

Take time to meditate and visualize your life and success.

Find ways to let go of your emotions, like anger, sadness, grief, and anything that gets in your way of focusing on what you want to accomplish. I like writing letters to people, situations, and things that get me angry or upset, I then write out all my emotions on paper and thank the person or situation for teaching me, then I let that person, situation or issue go with love. It works.

It is okay to feel the emotions we are feeling. Do not bypass them. Feel them, then get them out on paper, then let that paper go. I burn my letters (safely) and let them go. You can shred them too, but let the emotions go with love.

So, to manage in this time, you need to care for “Y.O.U”

“O” — Overcome Issues

The “O” in Y.O.U. is to be creative enough and get help, ideas to help you “Overcome” the challenges you face. Someone in your life has overcome some of the challenges you are facing in your business and life.

Someone has written a book about your challenges; someone has ideas or contacts to share how you can overcome your block or problem right now. Ask for help!

Right now, with so many of us being challenged by life, there is no shame in asking for help or appearing weak. The key to making it and managing right now is to truly take care of “you”. So, get the help you need, ask for favors, ask for advice, ask for the sale, ask for money, ask, ask, ask, as Chicken Soup for the Soul author Jack Canfield suggests!

There is no shame in what we are going through right now; the shame is you not getting help and falling further. Besides, I want you to succeed! You can reach out to me below and if I can help you, I will.

So, work to overcome the challenge and ask for that help!

“U” — Seek to Unite or Unify

Form a community around you. Get that accountability partner, form a mastermind team, share your issues and challenges, and help each other grow, stretch, and succeed.

The late great Napoleon Hill, author of Think and Grow Rich, began the “Mastermind” concept — study what it is about and begin one. It can be a study group, a spiritual group, a book club, or a group of peers in business where you can come together and help each other by sharing ideas, feedback, contacts, and ways to do things more efficiently and/or cost effectively.

But, surround yourself with others in Unity and comm-unity! This month, be sure to take care of “Y.O.U.” so you can thrive in this season we are in.

Go get ‘em, I am cheering you on!
