Benefits of a Healthy Workplace

It goes without saying that your health is important, not just in the sense of keeping you fit and well, but it plays a huge role in your performance at work. From your drive and work ethic to the quality of work you deliver, being healthy is far more important than you may realise. Not only will you reap benefits from being more active and healthy at work, but in your home life too. You will feel more energised and raring to go, leaving you in a better frame of mind to enjoy your evenings and weekends without worrying and overworking yourself into the ground.

Evidence shows that a good, clean working environment is positive and beneficial for your health, whereas a bad working environment (such as low job control, no organisation, dirt and mess, etc.) can massively impact your health, leaving your employees absent to visit a Private GP or have days off work. This may seem obvious, but it’s something that should be pointed out and considered in your place of work. There has also been evidence that a healthier, engaged and active employee is more productive and shows lower levels of sickness and absence. One thing to take away from this is, the cleaner, healthier, and more active your employees and workplace are, the more productive, beneficial and successful your employees and business will be.

How to Keep Healthy at Work

Keeping healthy at work can include various things. From exercise to cleanliness, there are many ways to improve your health. Whether you want to look for ways to keep healthy in terms of fighting off a cold and the flu or become more active and mentally prepared for your days, we have some tips to help you.

1. Keep Your Office and Desk Clean

Office cleanliness is something not to be dismissed. From your own desk to the entire workplace, keeping everything clean, tidy and in order will not go unnoticed or without benefits. Having a tidy desk-station gives you a clear mind, no distractions and an organised day ahead, and a clean office prevents sickness, looks visually appealing, and kills bugs and bacteria. Although it may seem obvious and easy to do, keeping an office clean is a task. Some employees may not be as participating as others, which can lead to the spreading of sickness bugs and also can deter clients if you’re a customer-facing office. All in all, making the joint effort between you and your employees to push for keeping your office and desks clean will result in a tidier workplace, healthier staff, and a much more professional, hygienic and immaculate office.

2. Don’t Overwork

Even though every boss admires a hard worker, they appreciate you turning into work even more. Pressuring yourself to over-perform time and time again may seem good at the time, but it’ll take its toll on you and leave you either thriving for more work or feeling exhausted. This, of course, is not a healthy or suggested long-term answer to your workload, as you will get rundown and things may become difficult to manage. Instead, make goals and targets that are realistic, giving you something to aim towards without the need to overdo it time and time again.

3. Take Time Away from Your Desk, PC, or Workspace

With the average person working between 8-10 hours a day, that’s a lot of time to be in the same space. From working at a computer to behind a counter, it’s important to take breaks. Eye strain can happen very easily without the right measures in place. Having the right screen brightness, breaks, and wearing glasses if necessary will give you and your eyes the right care that’s needed. Regardless of where you work, we strongly recommend that you take time away from your desk, PC, or workspace so that you can have a rest from your usual activity.

How a Healthy Workplace Benefits a Business

With all actions come repercussions, not necessarily bad either. Putting certain measures in place will give you results that will benefit your business both now and in the long term. Some of the benefits of a healthy workplace include:

  • Increased productivity
  • Less sick days and illnesses
  • Better employee engagement
  • Cleaner office for customers and visitors
  • More room for growth, including sales and profits

We hope that you take our tips away with you and make them your own. We want your business to thrive just as much as ours. These tips, in turn, will promote cleanliness and wellbeing throughout your company, giving you the opportunity to grow your business and increase your sales and profits. It really is as simple as that and it’s all down to your office vibe, cleanliness and the morale in your office from employees.
