According to a recent study, London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) is the best Russell Group university to attend if you want a career at a top world-leading firm.
LSE
The research was compiled by international education provider Oxford Royale. It analyzed LinkedIn data and discovered the number of Alumni from the 24 Russell Group universities who are now working at some of the world’s most prestigious companies. Then the number was converted to a percentage, and it revealed that LSE is first on the list. LSE has the highest percentage of graduates working at top firms.
More than 240,000 people list themselves as alumni of the university on LinkedIn. In addition, more than seven percent of those state on their profile that they work at the companies included in the analysis. These firms were determined by looking at the UK’s 50 biggest companies by revenue. In addition, the Top 60 World’s Most Attractive Employers were analyzed.
University of Warwick
The University of Warwick is second on the list, with more than six percent of its alumni currently employed by world-class firms like Google and Deloitte. More than 1,500 LSE graduates are employed by Deloitte. This is the highest percentage on the list, followed by the University of Warwick, which again comes second.
Deloitte
The professional services firm was founded in London in 1845. Then it expanded into the United States in 1890. Deloitte is the largest professional services network in the world. It is one of the Big Four accounting organizations, and it provides financial advisory, risk advisory, audit, consulting, tax and legal services.
In 2020, Deloitte was named the third-largest privately owned company in America by Forbes, and there are currently 345,000 employees working for the firm globally. According to the data, Russell Group alumni are most likely to work for Deloitte. This ranked seventh on the Fortune Best Big Companies to work for in 2021. Compared to all the companies on the list, the firm employs the highest percentage of graduates from 19 of the 24 Russell Group universities.
LSE also takes the lead for producing the Russell Group’s highest percentage of alumni who currently work at Google. Moreover, nearly 400 graduates list the internet giant as their employer on their LinkedIn profile.
Big Five
Larry Page and Sergey Brin founded Google on 4th September 1998. It specializes in internet-related products and services, which include a search engine, software, and online advertising technologies. Furthermore, the company is now considered one of the Big Five in the American IT industry. The Big Five includes Google, Apple, Amazon, Microsoft and Facebook. By the end of 2020, Google’s parent company, Alphabet, employed 135,301 full-time staff.
Imperial College London
Imperial College London is the Russell Group university with the third highest percentage of alumni working at top employers. Just over six percent of people with a degree from the university now work at the world’s most prestigious businesses.
It’s also the university that’s produced the highest percentage of alumni currently working at Microsoft, with 233 Imperial College London graduates naming the technology company as their employer on LinkedIn.
Microsoft
Microsoft is another of the Big Five companies. The multinational technology corporation was founded by Bill Gates and Paul Allen on 4th April 1975 and is best known for its software products including the Microsoft Windows operating systems, the Microsoft Office suite and the Internet Explorer browser.
Microsoft ranked 15 in the Fortune 500 2021 list and the company currently employs around 181,000 people in full-time positions worldwide.
Durham University and University of Nottingham
Fourth on the list of Russell Group graduates working at top companies is Durham University. Nearly six percent of its graduates work for top employers, while the University of Nottingham comes fifth place, with almost five percent of its alumni working for the best companies.
Oxford Royale Academy (ORA) CEO & Founder, William Humphreys was asked to comment on the findings. He said, “It is fascinating to see the path that graduates of top universities are most likely to take in their careers. Earning a place at a Russell Group institution is a challenge, and it doesn’t stop there once students are graduating and finding their way in the working world. Therefore, planning and preparing for professional life is key to give a student the best chance.”
