How to Create the Perfect Home Office

Working from home has many benefits including; complete flexibility, no commute, and a great work-life balance. However, you might find it difficult to focus on work when you’re surrounded by home comforts. Creating a designated workspace in your house will not only give you a place to get your head down, but will help you to define your brand identity.

A spare bedroom makes the perfect home office. You can close the door, forget about the housework you didn’t get around to last night, and activate ‘work mode’. Before you design your home office you should ask yourself:

  • What will I be using this space for?
  • What is the nature of my work?
  • Will my colleagues/ clients be visiting the space?
  • What equipment do I require?

These questions are important for understanding the purpose of your space and helping you to make focused design decisions. With the purpose outlined, you can get to the fun bit – decorating! Here are our top tips:

Brand Focused Design

As branding is heavily influenced by visuals, creating a home office that reflects your brand is an effective way of reinforcing your company’s message. Immersing yourself in your brand, by creating a workspace that reflects your company’s identity, is an effective way to separate work life from home life – an essential part of remote working. Think company colours, wall decals of your logo/ inspirational quotes and furnishings/ accessories that convey your identity.

Design for Wellbeing

“Workplace wellbeing” is a common idea in corporate settings, but what key learnings can you apply to your home office? Wooden textures and the addition of plants can all help create a happier and healthier work environment. Your personal comfort is also an important factor in ensuring your well-being. Choose an ergonomic chair to support your back and consider soft keyboard pads that relax the wrists.

Be Smart with Space

There’s nothing more distracting than a messy workspace, so concealing your clutter in clever storage solutions is a great way to stay productive. If you’re dealing with a small or awkwardly shaped room, then bespoke fitted furniture can provide smart solutions for all your storage requirements.

Make Room for a “Third Space”

Sometimes you need to work away from the traditional desk and computer setup; this is where a ‘third place’ is essential. In the corporate world, this could be a local café, or an office canteen, however taking time out to go to a coffee shop may not be convenient for home workers. Setting up a cosy nook within your office will give you an alternative workspace where your creativity can flow freely. It will also double as an informal meeting space. Create a comforting, yet commercial setting by layering a classic chesterfield sofa with cushions and throws to create texture. Add a coffee table and lamp to make the space functional and voila! Your beautiful home office is now complete.
