The One Question That Will Change Everything: What Is Right About This?

When you desire to change something, what is the first thing you do? For most, it is to look for a solution to fix the problem. We think that if we dissect, or understand, or analyze what is wrong, then we will eventually get to the right.

In my practice, any time you judge what is wrong with you or your business, you put the brakes on creativity and innovation, closing the door to change, growth and success.

Similarly, with the money side of business, if your mindset is continually on problems and what is wrong, you begin to perpetrate a lack-mentality, making no room for prosperity.

How you choose to see things will create the reality you experience. If you do not question or challenge your current points of view, you will remain satisfied with the limitations of your mindset, rather than creating greater. Questioning empowers you beyond limits and gives you access to changing anything.

In a world where focusing on what’s wrong is the standard, the power of a simple question can be a game-changer, such as, “What is right about this?”

Here are two ways to use it:

  • When you think something has gone wrong, ask – “What’s right about this I am not getting?”
  • When you think you are wrong, ask – “What’s right about me that I am not getting?”

There are many ways asking this question can be beneficial to you and your business. Here are a few:

Enhance perseverance

Why did you start your business or career? Probably you were excited about what you could bring to the world! As you go along, when things don’t always go smoothly, you can lose the excitement, motivation and inspiration for what you are creating. That is the time to stop and ask, “What’s right about this?” Rather than losing your drive when challenges arise, you are able to move beyond them more easily. If you don’t judge and ask a question instead, you set your creations free in the world more and more to go and make a difference.

Ignite curiosity

Truly curious people don’t have time for problems, they are too busy seeking another way. When you are curious, you are in constant inquiry and innovation mode, so roadblocks and problems really just become another springboard for creativity. Asking “What’s right?” keeps you on the road of curiosity.

Tune into possibilities

When your attention is on problem-solving, all you will get to see are the problems. Then, who is looking at the possibilities? If something isn’t working in your business and you ask, “What’s right about this I am not getting?” you will become receptive to information, ideas, inspiration and the unexpected benefits of what has occurred that you can’t see when you are focused on problems. Possibilities will expand your business, problems will not.

Stop worrying about the money

In business, you want to be creative, you want to bring those products and services out, and if the money worry comes in, it destroys and kills the joy and fun and creativity. Money is not a problem! If you lose money on a project or investment, or you aren’t making as much as you’d like, what’s right about it you’re not getting? Ask, “What have I learned?” and “What experience or information is this giving me that will benefit me in the future?” Worry doesn’t create more, but questions do.

Increase patience and resilience

If you have lots of expectations (judgments!) of when and how things in business should show up, you can lose patience or feel a failure. If the number of clients you predicted in this month don’t show up, are you wrong? Is the business wrong? If you ask what’s right about it, you may be able to identify a benefit in the timing rather than a problem. What opportunity could it be you haven’t considered?

Establish greater self-trust

Do you trust that you have the power and the potency to create what you desire in business, no matter what? Many people don’t, and instead try to get everything to be perfect, right and predictable. But the expectation to be perfect and predictable is a utopian ideal – it doesn’t exist in any business! When you trust you enough to ask, “What’s right about this?” no matter what shows up, you will have an adventure of exploring what you can create in your business without having to control it or know exactly how it will play out beforehand.

Be a leader

“What’s right about this?” may appear a basic or simple question, but in truth, it takes courage to get out of the “wrongness” mentality. Just the willingness to have possibilities in life rather than assume you have problems is a very different way of functioning. It makes you stand out from the crowd. You might not be liked by everybody. But you will be a leader for something greater.

Are you truly willing to change everything? Are you willing to have more and be more than the people around you? Are you willing to ask what is right and what is possible with absolutely anything that shows up – good, bad and ugly? Are you willing to lead with confidence and know that nothing about you or your business is ever wrong?

What if everything right now in your business and life is exactly the way it should be to create a future that is greater than any rightness could ever be?
