The Nina Patel Story: Making a Fortune from Freelancing

Having graduated from the University of Delhi in 2010, Nina Patel got her B.A (Hons) in Journalism and Mass Communication. She started freelancing for a number of papers and began a blogger page on Tumbler guiding students through the world of journalism. In 2017, she changed it all to focus on the rise of gambling online in India.

Changing Her Approach to Writing Paid Off

Nina recalls from a very early age that she had a passion for learning, she had an interest in other cultures and history. Her father was a foreign news reporter for Zee TV during the 80s and 90s and was often away from home whilst working. She looked forward to his return saying that “if there were any positives to take from a situation that’s not ideal when you need a father figure when growing up, they’d be that his stories would fascinate me endlessly”.

With the encouragement of her father, Nina Patel enrolled into Delhi University at a later age of 23, having worked at the same station as her father as a lead researcher. She applied for a 4-year course in Journalism and completed her B.A (Hons) which focused on geopolitics.

After spending 7 years documenting and writing about global events as a freelance writer, Nina decided her life need a dramatic change. “It wasn’t an easy decision to make, after so long you become ingrained in the job you have and I feared it was either me or the work that was becoming too stale.”

Her decision was to not abandon the skills she had acquired as a writer; she took up a surprising job of freelancing for online casinos.

“A job opportunity arose just after the New Year of 2017; at the time it was something I was dead against until I researched it further. I felt there was an opportunity to be a voice for the people in a time where online gambling was starting to become big business.” She adds: “Gambling is not for me, but if I can acquire true insight knowledge of the industry, I can inform people that take part with honest and accurate reporting and steer them away from websites that were not legitimate.”

February 2017, Nina became a freelance reporter and writer for https://www.casinobonusesindex.com/online-casino-india/, a comparison site for the global online gambling market. There she now writes exclusive content for the Indian markets, making casino reviews which promote the top legitimate sites open to Indian players and writes game reviews to assist players on how to play games such as the online slot machines, blackjack and roulette.

Nina: “It Was Definitely All Worth the Gamble”

“Financially, I didn’t expect to make the money I make. At the time I was just focused on making the work honest and right. What came with that was a financial pay structure that would have matched some of the leading TV news reporters.”

Money was never a motivation, but it took me by surprise how easy it was to get more and more of it the more I wrote. I don’t have to play the games to feel like I’ve won the jackpot. I just have to write about it, and it was a decision that really did pay off. It was definitely worth the gamble you could say.”
