There are countless startups springing up every day around the world. Thus, no wonder “startup” is one of the most-used words in any conversation—it is synonymous with innovation. Of course, not all startups can be innovative, and most of them are downright stupid. Therefore, here are some super-pioneering, rather out-of-the-box startups to re-establish the reputation of startups in your mind.

The startups in this list have sprung up to solve day-to-day problems that we encounter and make our jobs much easier. While some aim to deal with the problems associated with migrating, some are here to battle the use of plastic. Either way, the uniqueness and creativity of these startups make them worth a mention.

1. XploraBox

This startup is a subscription box for kids! It lets parents order an activity box to keep their kids engaged throughout the month. The box comes with half-a-dozen activities inside, like DIYs, puzzles, story books, etc., with a different level of complexity for every age group. While a 3-month subscription costs Rs.2697, you can get it for a discount using GrabOn.

2. Boriya Bistar

This Bengaluru-based startup is a bliss for individuals migrating from one city to another for studies or a job. Moving to a new place is chaos, as you don’t know what all you need until you do. In the middle of a shower, you realize you need a soap case, and the need for a ladle arises right when your soup starts burning. This is why Boriya Bistar sells “bundles”. All your basic requirements will come in a bundle package. Of course, you can choose to get a Basic, Premium, or Luxury package for one, two, or more roommates.

3. Let’s Barter India

Reviving the age-old tradition of bartering, this startup by Sahil Dhingra and Pooja Bhayana lets you exchange something you no longer need for something you do. It’s as simple as that. You just add a listing of a product you once loved (it could be anything, like a book, electronic gadgets, furniture, passes to a concert, a coin collection, etc.) on the Facebook group or mobile app. Soon other members of the community will get in touch with you with their offers. You then pick the offer you like most and barter away!

4. Bakeys

Founded by Hyderabad-based Narayana Peespaty, this unique startup sells edible spoons that you can eat once you’re done eating with them. Containing carom, cumin, pepper, salt, and yummy taste-makers, this edible spoon is, apart from being a genius idea, an eco-friendly alternative to plastic. And don’t worry, it won’t melt in your soup. In fact, it doesn’t even get soggy unless soaked in a liquid for 10 minutes or more.

5. JoinMyWedding

This startup lets foreign travelers become a part of an Indian wedding and see its customs and celebrations up close. Travelers can choose from the weddings in the portal and pay to attend them. Participating in the rituals, getting a taste of the Indian feast, and dancing to the dhols gives them a first-hand experience of India. The couple hosting them not only gets to share their wedding ceremony with the world, but also gain back some of the wedding expenses.
