Hot tubs are a popular outdoor leisure accessory. Imagine sitting in your very own spa hot tub, sipping sparkling water, an ice cooler full of beverages nearby, and staring up at the twinkling stars high above. Doesn’t that sound amazing? Unfortunately, hot tubs don’t last forever.

Components such as heaters and pumps fail, and leaks can develop. Even a hot tub cover can begin to look grubby and tired-looking if you don’t take care of it. Here are some useful tips to help you refurbish your hot tub. You will find a refurbishment program is a lot cheaper than buying a new hot tub!

Give Your Hot Tub and Surrounding Area a Deep Clean

Before you do anything else, give your hot tub and the area where it’s sited a really deep clean. Empty out your tub, scrub it all down with an appropriate chemical solution, clean the filters, etc. Use a pressure washer to clean the outside of your hot tub, deck or patio area. Fill a bucket with hot soapy water and some bleach. Wipe all hard surfaces down to kill mold, mildew, and anything else lurking out of site.

Repair and Replace

Take a good, hard look at your hot tub. Is it in need of some TLC? Does the cover look past it’s best? If so, now is a good time to replace any worn components and parts. Check out these SpaMate hot tub covers if your hot tub cover is ready for replacement. A hard top cover is far more resilient than a soft top cover.

Repair or replace wooden panels around the hot tub if applicable. Consider moving and leveling your hot tub if the foundation it’s sitting on has shifted or dropped slightly.

Are you using an old crate as a makeshift step into and out of your hot tub? Now is an excellent time to build a proper step from stone.

Landscape the Area

A bit of sympathetic landscaping can make a world of difference. Cast an objective eye over the current landscaping design and see if there are any areas where you can make some improvements. How private is your hot tub? Can the neighbors see what you are up to? If so, buy some large potted plants with generous foliage. Potted palms are a good place to start. Investing in mature potted trees and shrubs will give you instant cover and more privacy. It’s a lot quicker than waiting for small saplings to grow.

If you don’t want to install large plants, fit trellis or a bamboo screen around your hot tub area. You can decorate this with small tubs of flowers and hanging baskets.

Lighting is very important too, especially if you like using your hot tub in the evening. Fit solar string lights around the area, so they twinkle once the sun goes down. Use potted plants and containers as anchors for solar post lights. If you want mains lighting, hire an electrician to fix some spotlights around your hot tub. In-water lighting is also pretty if you don’t already have this installed.

Finally, a Bluetooth music system is an excellent addition to any hot tub. Happy days!
