How to Earn Money in Direct Selling

Earning money in direct selling is a perfect opportunity for those who want to pursue independence in their career and outside of traditional office environments. Entrepreneurial-minded men and women who prefer the independence of working at home often gravitate to direct selling as a way to earn money on their own time with a typically low to nominal start-up cost.  The first step is to choose a company that sells products that you would want to use and would be proud to represent.  In selecting a direct selling company to join, do your homework about its success, track record, longevity and credibility in the industry.

Exploring companies you’d like to affiliate with, pay attention to training.  Make sure that they offer the tools and access to mentors you need to do your job.  Look at their commitment to giving entrepreneurial-minded people what they need to conquer the world of direct selling and balance hi-touch with hi-tech platforms. This includes training in every aspect of the sales process, leadership development to essential product knowledge.

One thing that is key to success in any home-based business is discipline.  I often use myself as an example.  My family lives on the west coast, and Princess House’s corporate headquarters is on the east coast.  When working on the west coast, I’m up at 3:30 am Pacific time and get fully dressed and made up for meetings that start at 5:00 am Pacific– 8:00 am Eastern on a typical day.  For those who conduct business at home, it would be easy to stay in pajamas, but this daily discipline is important. I like to say that when you’ve exercised your discipline muscles for a while, it stops hurting when you stretch them.

Much has been written already about the nuts and bolts of direct selling itself.  What is often left out in sales training and how-to-manuals are the intangible, but essential “soft skills” that can make all the difference in direct selling.

We make sure that at their core, our consultants embody two essential pillars of our company’s purpose statement: “Our power is our people,” and “Our business inspires dreamers, rewards excellence, and transforms lives.”  At Princess House, we also encourage every consultant to embrace these simple principles, which can benefit anyone in sales and business building roles:

1. Be compassionate: Create a personal bond with your customers; there’s always time to listen and care.

2. Be determined:  To power your success, be passionate about your products and your business, giving direct selling your all, every day.

3. Be respectful:  Treat your customer the way you’d like to be treated from the moment you meet them.  Present your products professionally, take orders gratefully and deliver them efficiently.

4. Be agile:  Seek new opportunities and challenges wherever you go in your community.  Expand your circle of acquaintances and associates, because everyone you encounter may be a potential customer.

5. Be accountable:  Submit your orders immediately and make sure that your customer gets exactly what is promised, when you promised. Follow-up to show your interest in how they like using their products and keep the door open for future orders.

At Princess House, each day we work to support our consultants by continuing to evolve the tools and technologies they need, from product development to training and recognition programs.  At the corporate level, we have a vision for success that includes robust distribution and logistics systems and a state-of-the-art technology platform and back-end systems — all to ensure the company is positioned to continue to lead the industry in providing a real, cost-effective and results-oriented business opportunity for everyone.  The rest is up to our consultants!
