For thirty years, J.N. “Jim” Whiddon spent his career in the financial services industry where as an accomplished business owner, wealth advisor and national thought leader, he authored two books: Wealth Without Worry and The Investing Revolutionaries. In working with thousands of couples over the years, Whiddon emphasized how to successfully invest financial capital. But his vast experience in this arena only highlighted the greater worry that kept his clients up at night – their children and their grandchildren. Impassioned with a new mission, Whiddon sold his highly successful investment firm in 2013, and began writing The Old School Advantage: Timeless Tools for Every Generation (Brown Books Publishing Group). As a father of four millennials, he felt compelled to invest in something of even greater value – social capital, the "how-to" of life. He now teaches that by putting stock into developing communication skills, leadership qualities, and –most of all – wisdom, parents can leave a legacy for their kids and grandkids that allows them to not only properly manage a financial inheritance, but also to lead a balanced life of significance. During his 12-day trip through China, Whiddon presented Old School lectures to student forums and other groups on topics such as influence and persuasion, customer acquisition and service, and how to make an unforgettable first impression. He came away with the impression that Chinese students are very respectful of authority and have the same goals and concerns for a career, family, and the future just like American students. A voracious reader and an avid sports enthusiast, Whiddon enjoys speaking to students, parents and corporate personnel on how to live “old-school” in life and in business. Whiddon earned his bachelor’s degree from Texas A&M University and a Master of Science degree from The American College in Philadelphia. He and his wife reside in the Dallas area.
