From inspiring individuals to achieve their education goals to providing authors with a one-stop-solution to publish their books, Dr. Nicole Armstrong is an ultimate #girlboss who laid the foundation for a revolutionary initiative that specializes in providing mentorship to schools and other organizations focused on education!
Read about the success story of a lifelong educator from Chicago who started her own brand in an endeavor to make a difference in people’s lives:
A QUEST FOR EDUCATION THAT TURNED INTO A BUSINESS IDEA
In spite of being a single mother who had to battle through a multitude of challenges to raise her children, Dr. Armstrong always nurtured an innate desire to continue her education. In fact, it was her passion for learning that inspired her to pursue an MBA in Human Resources Management. Feeding her inner craving for learning, she went on to earn a Doctorate in Educational Leadership. But this is just the beginning of her story!
Being a proud bearer of many hats (degrees), Nicole resolved to dedicate her life to educating others. She boasts 9 exceptional years of experience teaching post-secondary and 7 years of teaching secondary education. As a matter of fact, Nicole has taught in classes as small as 3 participants and as large as 50. That’s not all! On a voyage to spread education to the masses, she took up mentoring programs where she imparted knowledge to her students in face-to-face, online and classroom settings.
THE IDEA OF SHE’S A DOCTOR: CREATING A COMMUNITY OF LEARNERS
With a wagonload of teaching experience under her belt, Nicole knew it was time to bring out the entrepreneur inside her and pave the way for a company that not only helped people through education but also focused on purposeful learning that facilitated their overall development.
Today, She’s a Doctor has emerged as a multi-faceted company that encompasses Nicole as an author sharing knowledge on subjects of education, culture and relationships. The company also offers books and services (consulting, speaking, and publishing) to enrich individuals in education as well as other areas in their lives.
Last but not the least, She’s a Doctor also helps first-time authors by providing them with a one-stop-solution to publishing their books.
SPREADING AWARENESS WITH A BRAND NEW TEACHING GUIDE
While Nicole is still preoccupied getting the word out about She’s a Doctor via social media and speaking engagements, she is also promoting her company through her brand new book called How to Leave Your Class as a Guest Teacher.
Not only does she regard this book as one of her biggest business achievements as an entrepreneur, but she also leverages it to reach out to potential beneficiaries including schools, administrators, certified teachers and guest teachers.
Being a substitute teacher, or as she prefers to be called a “guest teacher” for seven years, Nicole uses this flawlessly master-crafted book to explain how to prepare a class for a substitute teacher, describing what resources are valuable to substitute teachers from a substitute teacher’s perspective. It empowers the principals, vice principals, teachers and school staff to learn which resources are needed when teachers are out of class, to ensure students receive continuous classroom instruction.
WORKING FROM HOME: A BLESSING IN DISGUISE
While an ordinary job is likely to keep one confined to the 9-to-5 workday, thanks to the flexibility and comfort of working from home, Nicole can juggle her personal and professional lives well. This comes as a boon for a self-driven mother who could spend more time with her children, be able to help them with homework, go to their sporting events and do much more.
Aside from the flexible schedule, working from home helped her learn critical lessons like problem-solving, leveraging outside resources and getting creative. Time is precious and it’s saved her a lot of time (no commute). Further, there are fewer distractions than in a shared office space. Now, she can not only be more productive but also plan her next business moves at home.
Embarking upon her mission to educate more and more people, Nicole plans to incorporate additional services like college tours and scholarship programs in the coming years. Last but not the least: it’s her mission to inspire individuals to attain a doctorate-level degree.
