Dawn James-Okonkwo is a British Fashion Design living in the United Kingdom. She is highly creative and very passionate about Fashion Design and the business world. Dawn studied Womenswear Fashion Design first at the University of Salford where she received her HND (Womensear Fashion Design) at the University of Salford and a Postgraduate Diploma from the London College of Fashion. Dawn’s work is inspired by the Ancient Egyptians and the Ancient art of the West African Tribes.
She started her small fashion business from a spare room in her home.
Dawn designs vibrant beautiful abstract skirts for women and girls using very bold coloured fabric; she designs many different styles, pencil styles, A-line and miniskirts. The skirts are ideal for work and evening. She mixes African print fabric, with silk, cotton and wool fabrics. She makes the patterns, cuts the fabric and sews the garments up from her home studio. She also conducts meetings from her home studio and finds that when she works from home she gets so much more accomplished.
Working at home is a great solution for her as it takes special discipline to work at home, which she has an abundance of. She treats her work study exactly like a real office/studio and closes it at 6pm until she begins work again the next morning. She knows that she must be entirely self-motivated to be productive at home and get her work done.
Dawn’s friends have asked her if she misses out on the camaraderie that stems from working with others day after day, telling her that she has no co-workers to go lunch with. Dawn’s answer to this is simple, she has joined many business networking groups (lunchtime and evening ones) and women’s social groups where she gets to go out and meet and socialise with other ladies in business; she also uses these groups to make many friends and valuable business connections.
Working from home means she can cut out the commuting aspect of getting to work. She finds it to be a huge morale booster and a huge time saver. Dawn says that working from home saves money on gas and public transportation.
Dawn has just launched her Indiegogo campaign to raise funds to expand her business and take it to the next level. She has 45 days to raise her funding goal on the Indiegogo platform.
