Everyone loves an aesthetically pleasing and inviting home that they can return to after a stressful day at work or simply for their enjoyment. Regardless of the type of house you live in or where you are from, everyone wants to feel comfortable in their own space.
Adding color and artwork to one’s space can make it a brighter and more vibrant place to live and work from home. There are lots of different avenues that one can venture into when attempting to revamp their space, but many are expensive and not always exactly what you are looking for. Luckily, there are plenty of ways to create your own home decor!
1. Do You Have Lots of Rundown, Old Furniture?
Upcycling is becoming one of the number-one ways one can turn cheap, broken, and worn-down furniture into a reasonably priced and cute addition to their home. Many upcycle (the name was given to the DIYers that revamp old furniture), go to resale shops, or garage sales for their cheap finds in the hopes of discovering a beat-up diamond in the rough. This is most common with tables and dressers.
For some materials, you need a sander, wood filler, paint of your choice, and probably some new knobs. While this may seem like a hefty list of materials, some of the options are a one-time buy and can be used for many pieces. This is an easy, quick, and cheap way to spice up your home decor and give your rooms a new look without breaking the bank.
2. Does Your Bedding Look Tired and Worn-out?
The bed is the center of the room and can make your bedroom look drab or fab; therefore, it needs to be stylish and sleek. There are a lot of different crafts that one can do to make their bed or sleeping space look modern and cool by using cheap finds at thrift stores or goods laying around the house.
Sweater pillows are one nifty craft that can be utilized in your bedroom. All you need is some old sweaters, tired pillows, thread, and some buttons. This is a quick and simple way to make your throw pillows seem vintage and chic. This adds texture to your bed and provides some dimension to your throw pillows.
Another way to step up the look of your bedding is to buy a bed cover. These sleeves slip around your current bedding, but provide a completely new and improved look to your room without costing too much.
3. Do You Need Some Color on Your Walls?
Another quick and easy way to add some life to a room or to create some color in your space is by adding artwork. However, most cute artwork is extremely expensive, so oftentimes people do not want to spend the money on simple aesthetics. Luckily, there are plenty of easy options for some colorful artwork.
Paint pouring is becoming a new phenomenon. All you need is canvas, plastic cups, and paint. You simply pour the paint in whatever order you want onto the canvas and then tilt the canvas in different ways to create fun and unique patterns of color.
Another option is paint splattering. This is extremely messy, but also extremely fun! For this craft, you need a canvas, paint, and a brush, preferably a big one, but you can also just use your hands. I recommend doing this outside on some grass or a tarp. To splatter the paint, you either dip your hand or the brush into the color of your choice and then fling it at the canvas, hence the messy and fun part. This paint job is quick and enjoyable.
4. What Materials Should You Use for Your New Home Decor?
Lots of times, the options and materials for DIY home decor can be hard to find or expensive, but fortunately, there are a lot of ways to find the necessary materials without spending too much money. One great place to look for materials is second-hand stores or thrift shops. These typically offer cheap materials, but may not be the colors or textures you are looking for. However, they are an easy way to not feel guilty about wasting or throwing out the leftover art supplies. Another way to find cheap materials is garage sales. Similar to thrift stores, they may not provide exactly what you are looking for, but can also create some inspiration or take your home decor in a different direction. Lastly, you can always just go to a retail store, but second-hand selling can be a fun and cheap way to spice up your living space.
