Photosynthesis: A course on Khan Academy
To learn the science about photosynthesis and photorespiration
This course will delve deep into the technical details about photosynthesis, its benefits and the impact of one of its undesirable side effects.
Photorespiration is a side effect of photosynthesis where carbon dioxide is emitted and oxygen is used up. It causes energy wastage and undoes sugar synthesis in plants. It occurs in plants called C3 plants when they are exposed to hot and dry conditions since they are not equipped to combat it. While most plants are of the C3 type, there are C4 and CAM plants that can combat this undesirable effect. This course will teach you the science behind these concepts.
Learning about how these plants function can help you decide which plants are best suited for your garden, depending on the climate conditions to which it is exposed.
