The Moon Pod is a new type of bean bag chair. It looks and feels nothing like other bean bags on the market. The tightly-packed beads will fit your form in whatever way you choose to sit in the chair. The chair has a unique design and would likely prove to be a conversation starter in your home office.
When the product launched in 2018, it was offered in light grey and Moon Pod reviews were cautiously optimistic if skeptical. They are now also offering replacement outer shells. Coming in late 2019, they are adding something called The Crescent, which is a detachable backrest that appears to make the chair even more comfortable and substantial. With The Crescent, it looks more like a chair than a bean bag.
The advertisements and videos make the chair seem as though it is something everyone needs to have in their life. Then they see the price and a bit of sticker shock hits. This chair is costly for being a bean bag. Of course, the website wants you to buy into a concept more than a chair.
The website advertises the chair as an “anti-gravity float chair.” It also states that “we have engineered the Moon Pod to mimic the sensations you would experience during a Flotation Therapy session. Flotation Therapy is a well-known powerful practice used to help those who suffer from stress, anxiety, insomnia, PTSD, and ADHD. Moon Pod not only supports your body but also calms your mind.”
It is a careful sleight of hand. Read carefully, and you will see that the Moon Pod mimics Flotation Therapy. It then goes on to describe the known benefits of Flotation Therapy. The reader can infer that the chair has the same benefits as Flotation Therapy. You will find no scientific evidence that the chair calms your mind, nor that it has any of the same benefits as flotation therapy.
If you are considering purchasing the Moon Pod, do so based on its looks, comfort, and versatility. There is nothing about the Moon Pod that makes it anti-gravity, nor is there any proof that it mimics Flotation Therapy.
There are benefits to the Moon Pod. It is a comfortable chair and a versatile piece of furniture. Another unique feature of the Moon Pod is the many different positions you can attain. You can sit, recline or lay, all while having even support on every part of your body.
Are they worth the price tag?
I think this question is best answered by determining the purpose of the chair for your home office space. If you just want something for a child to play video games in a few hours a week while you work next to them, there are probably more economical options. If you are looking for something that you or other members of your family will spend significant time in, then the Moon Pod is worth consideration.
The chair definitely scores points on versatility. When lounging, you can recline back to the perfect point of comfort for you. No matter what position you want to be in, the Moon Pod provides the same level of complete support to each point of contact. No other bean bags on the market do that.
The bag seems comfortable for people of all ages and sizes. Accommodating people of different sizes is another important consideration. Even large, oversized bean bags are not going to be comfortable for long for a big guy. A young child might start to feel trapped inside a giant bean bag chair. None of those things are a concern with the Moon Pod.
The Moon Pod would probably be most worth the price for:
- Those who spend a large portion of time working on their laptops and tablets might find the Moon Pod a great alternative workspace.
- The chair would also be nice for someone looking to create a reading corner for themselves. It would also function as a quiet, relaxing space for another child or adult.
- The Moon Pod would help prevent stiffness for gamers who spend hours at a time in front of a video game.
- Those who live in a small space and need flexible furniture options with a small footprint would benefit from the comfort and versatility of the Moon Pod.
- The Moon Pod would make a great addition to a home office as a respite from sitting at a desk all day long.
- Those who live in tiny houses, or spend time in an RV would probably find these helpful. They are lightweight for travel, and their versatility would benefit those without a lot of extra room to spare.
