A Home Office Should Reflect Your Brand and Personal Style

A designated workspace is essential for success as a home business owner and how you choose to decorate and organize your space should be a true reflection of your design aesthetic and business.  Having an office that speaks to your brand and style will create a more desirable work environment and ultimately increase your work productivity.

Here are five simple tips to help you design a home office that will not only inspire you but promote work efficiency.

Color:  Before embarking on the layout and design of your home office, be sure to choose a color palette that reflects your business and personal style.  If your business color palette happens to be navy blue and millennial pink don’t be afraid to splash those colors on your walls or accents in your workspace.  By doing so you are creating a workspace that mirrors who you are and what your clients should expect in the work or service you produce for them.

Location:  The location of your home office is one of the most important aspects of your design plan.  Your workspace should be located in an area of your home where you have the least distractions, are most creative, and is saturated with natural light.  Several studies have proven, that working in a space with a view and natural light ignites creativity and empowers you to produce quality work.

Walls:  Walls should never be left blank in your workspace.  Walls are a great resource to place inspirational prints, writable surfaces for brainstorming, or cork board for mood/story board inspirations. Technology has given us several options when it comes to wall coverings to move beyond the classroom whiteboard and chalkboard paint. Companies like peerhatch provide custom writable wall coverings that infuse any graphic image of your choice; allowing you to personalize your workspace from ceiling to floor and encourage collaborative interactions between you and your client.

Furniture:  When choosing furniture for your workspace be sure to choose pieces that are ergonomically designed and reflects your design aesthetic.  Lucky for us, ergonomically designed furniture has evolved from bland black leather and fabric chairs to beautifully crafted pieces that are beneficial to your physical health.  Whether you are a fan of lacquer or mid-century design be sure to find a desk, chair, or storage piece that reflects your style.

Brainstorm Area:  When laying out your furniture pieces in the designated workspace be sure to include a comfortable area for you to brainstorm ideas with your clients on future projects.  This area can include a couch, coffee table, or round table with multiple chairs.  It is important to remember this area is where your clients should feel welcome and is comfortable enough for you to take a much needed break from a long work day.

By implementing these five simple tips into your workspace, you can create an inspirational atmosphere for your home business and execute wonderful work.
