Unless you’ve been living under a rock your whole life, you’ve probably been to a McDonald’s and tried one of their tasty burgers. With over 36000+ global establishments, McDonald’s is undoubtedly the world’s most successful fast food chain. If you’re wondering how McDonald’s grew to be the sensational franchise it is today, the new film, The Founder, shares the chain’s backstory and is a true inspiration for all aspiring food startup owners. Home Business Magazine recently attended the US premiere of The Founder (presented by DeLeón Tequila) at The ArcLight in Hollywood, CA, and got an inside look at the film.
Starring Michael Keaton, Nick Offerman, and Laura Dern and produced by Jeremy Renner, The Founder delves deep into the backstory of McDonald’s and one of its founders, Ray Kroc. Played by Keaton, Kroc was a struggling entrepreneurial dreamer who discovered a single McDonald’s hamburger stand after they requested a big order for shake blenders he was selling at the time. He drove across the country to check out the successful burger joint and came up with the genius idea for a franchise. From there, he partnered with the original McDonald’s brothers and grew the chain to the massive empire it is today.
The film provides an excellent overview of how Kroc grew the chain by consistently adding new McDonald’s establishments and hiring young middle-class couples to run them. While overseeing the chain’s enormous growth and expansion, Kroc eventually struggles to see eye-to-eye with the original McDonald’s brothers and he starts making company decisions on his own. This causes major rifts between him and the brothers and he later sets his focus on making money off of the land leased for each McDonald’s franchise. Eventually, Kroc sells out the brothers and takes control of the entire chain.
For aspiring food startup owners who need extra motivation for 2017, definitely plan a date to check out The Founder. In all, the movie shows how with self-motivation, drive, and ingenuity, it is possible to bring even your biggest business ideas to life. Even though Kroc is portrayed as ruthless, money-hungry, and slightly eccentric, the film provide fantastic insight into the history of McDonald’ and shows how America truly is a land of opportunity for those with a pioneering disposition.
After the premiere, the film’s stars attended an afterparty at Delilah, a swanky dinner & drinks spot in Hollywood with a 1920s vibe. Keeping with the theme of the movie, the party featured tasty cocktails by DeLeón Tequila and delectable American eats like tasty sliders, french fries, hashbrown sticks, and macaroni and cheese balls. It was the perfect space for The Founder‘s actors and production crew to celebrate the launch of the film and network with Hollywood’s most successful entrepreneurial influencers.
