The annual Sundance Film Festival is a true powerhouse when it comes to brand marketing success. Over the first weekend of Sundance 2016, Samsung connected their brand and products to the power and popularity of the film festival by hosting the Samsung Studio at Sundance. Home Business Magazine had the opportunity to attend the opening reception of the studio, which proved to be THE go-to venue for filmmakers, movie enthusiasts, and industry influencers to celebrate the festival and share film-making experiences.
The reception was a lovely introduction to the 2016 Sundance film festival and all of Samsung’s new must-see virtual reality devices. Attendees were excited to discover Samsung’s programming slate for the festival, get a hands-on look at the company’s new virtual reality content, see their just-released tablets and phones, take exciting photo souvenirs, and relax on plush couches with tasty cocktails and appetizers.
“One of the biggest trends and themes for 2016 is virtual reality. At Samsung, we are making VR more accessible by partnering with the best in the industry to deliver a growing library of engaging, rich content for our Gear VR which is all made possible by our latest Galaxy devices,” said Marc Mathieu, chief marketing officer at Samsung Electronics America. “We are excited to engage with the creative community at the 2016 Sundance Film Festival to collaborate and amplify viewpoints, content and new technological advancements as we continue to cultivate development in the VR community.”

#EmojiAllAccess
This was a truly first-of-its-kind social activation at Sundance. Attendees at Sundance who tweeted a dice emoji with#EmojiAllAccess were tweeted back with three Emojis to choose from. The Emoji they chose lead to a surprise experience brought to life by Samsung. Big ticket prizes ranged from access to screenings and exclusive events, mobile Karaoke parties, and even helicopter rides, all reserved for Galaxy owners. The activation ran from opening day to 1/25. Tweet @SamsungMobileUS for more information.
The studio also hosted panels with top Sundance 2016 actors and directors throughout the entire weekend. These panels provided a comfy, welcoming atmosphere for festivalgoers to get the exclusive inside on Sundance films directly from the actors and filmmakers themselves. Home Business Magazine was invited to attend the panel presentation for Tallulah, a must-see drama about a Beverly Hills housewife who hires a stranger to babysit her toddler and gets much more than she bargained for. The panel presentation gave attendees the chance to ask questions to the film’s star, Ellen Page, and director Sian Heder.
Not only was Samsung Studio extremely successful in getting the word out about their new virtual reality device releases, but it was also the perfect way to connect Sundance attendees with stars of the festival films. If you’re also wondering how to also get your business enormous publicity, consider setting up a branded venue like Samsung Studio at next year’s Sundance Film Festival. The festival is an excellent way to really generate mass awareness of your upcoming product or service launches and connect your brand to Hollywood.
