Born in Los Angeles, Ben Friedman is the latest generation of his family to be involved in the operations of long-term care facilities. Both his father and grandfather were involved in running a long-term care facility in his hometown before the tragic loss of Ben’s father meant that his grandfather was left with no choice but to sell the nursing home that he had worked so hard to establish and grow.
Ben Friedman would have loved nothing more than filling his father’s role alongside his grandfather and ensuring the facility stayed open for many years to come. However, he was simply too young to take on this huge responsibility and instead had to wait until later in his life before he was ready to run his own care centre.
Ben Friedman’s Canadian Venture
For Ben Friedman, it was only a matter of time before he got to live out his wish of carrying on the legacy his father left behind. It was around 12 years ago that Ben and his wife founded the Rykka Care Centre in Ontario, Canada.
To recognise his family’s work, he carried on the tradition of naming the business after a family member by naming it Rykka after his daughter. Ben Friedman has since expanded his network through Canada and owns and operates other facilities in Ontario all as part of the Rykka Care Centre network.
Here is a statement from Ben Friedman on how he sees his professional endeavors and his purpose for creating Rykka Care Centre in the first place:
“I suppose creating Rykka Care Centre as an adult was honoring my father and my grandfather’s legacy. I was proud to have the opportunity to own and run long-term care facilities in and around Toronto to serve the communities in which I live as my father and grandfather had so many years before.”
Ben Friedman’s Canada network encompasses three homes that all provide the absolute best in care for their residents. To help him and Rykka Care Centre manage these three homes, he partnered with Responsive Management Inc. This partnership has proven to be mutually beneficial and has been an important aspect of his success.
Rykka’s Response to the Pandemic
Like countless other businesses throughout Canada, Ben Friedman’s care facilities were not able to fend off the negative impacts of the Covid-19. At the beginning of the outbreak, knowledge on the effects of the virus and how to best circumvent it was very slow coming from the Ministry of Health. Due to the age of the population in long-term care facilities, they took on a great amount of loss before receiving the knowledge needed to adequately limit the spread of the virus. Sadly, Rykka Care Centre properties were no exception.
Once Ben Friedman and Rykka’s management staff received the knowledge of the virus and proper procedures to quell its transmission, the facilities under Rykka Care Centre’s watch led the way in bringing the members of their communities safely through the worst parts of the pandemic. The quality of care that was expected from the Rykka Care Centre network remained consistent throughout the pandemic.
During those unprecedented times, Ben Friedman and the entire team at Rykka Care Centre were praised for their response to the pandemic and their zero-tolerance attitude towards putting the safety of their residents at risk.
As part of the official response to this challenging time faced by Ben Friedman in Canada, the Ontario government decided that investments in the care sector were necessary. This is sure to have a positive impact on Rykka Care Centre and its residents while also improving the senior care industry as a whole.
Ben Friedman’s Other Work in Canada
In addition to Rykka Care Centre, Ben Friedman is a managing partner of a real estate development company in Canada. Ranee Management Group owns properties in and around the Toronto metro area. Much like Rykka Care Centre, this business is family-owned and operated and has been for decades.
The ethos that Ben Friedman shares are simple: top-notch properties at affordable prices. Not content with being better than the rest, he ensures that their properties continuously improve so that they remain some of the most impressive properties in the city.
He is keen to embark on as many philanthropic projects as possible and believes that it is important for business leaders in his position to support their communities as frequently as they can. It’s this caring nature that has seen Ben Friedman and his team truly honour these long-standing traditions.
The future looks set to provide Ben Friedman with continuing opportunities to honour his family while simultaneously serving the communities that have made him so welcome.
Long term care sounds like a tough industry to handle. I dont envy Rykka Care Centres or Ben Friedman. Hard job.
Caring for the elderly citizens in society is never givne as much praise and attention as it deserves. That is hard work taking care fo the most inportant people around. I don’t envy those workers
Ben Friedman knows long-term care in Canada. His businesses have served the people of Toronto and All of Canada for over a decade.
Everybody played the blame game duirng the beginning of the pandemic. The truth is that information should have come sooner. Western countries should have seen the pandemic coming a mile away, yet no one got prepared. Ben Friedman and Rykka are NOT to blame for inaction when they were not told to act until it was already too late. that is on the Canadian Government for not supplying info needed.
