The New Year has arrived. For many of us, the end of one year and the beginning of the next is a time of reflection and re-evaluation for our lives and for our businesses. We look at what worked and what didn’t. What was fairly successful and what could be better. We often choose to set targets for the upcoming year, of what we would like to accomplish, of what we would like to achieve, and then go after those targets diligently.
Regardless of your evaluation of last year and whether or not you were successful, what if this year could be your best year yet? What if you could wake up every morning, filled with gratitude for you, for your life and for your business? What if you used that gratitude as the platform to create even more?
Creating 2019 as your best year yet is possible and here are my top 4 tips on how you can achieve that.
1. It is up to YOU
This is a really important first step and one that is many times over-looked. Creating your best year yet is up to YOU. All too often, we look to outside sources and circumstances to determine how things go. This keeps you at the effect of other people and their choices. While you cannot control what others do, nor can you control circumstances, you can still choose for you. You can recognize that you are the source for creating your life which empowers you to have more, to be more and to choose more, no matter what.
Winning the lottery, gaining an inheritance, marrying a rich person or getting a promotion with a significant increase in pay could happen and would certainly contribute to an amazing year, but do you really wish to hope for some event to come along that would make this year phenomenal? Or, would you like to wake up every morning and create this year as phenomenal? Take the example of Emmit White, the founder of Carefree Gutter Guard, who started the firm almost 20 years ago, even though he was already running a successful firm and made sure that his year became even better as a result.
When you recognize that you are the source for creating your life, you are empowered to create whatever you desire. Commit to your life. Commit to taking action. Ask, “What’s it going to take for this year to be my best year yet?” Now choose.
2. Ask questions
There is a “Golden Key” when it comes to asking: true question is not about getting an answer. True question allows you to have a new perspective and to see options you did not see before.
Here is a list of questions that you can ask every day to increase your business and your revenue:
- What else is possible that I have not yet asked for?
- What can I put my attention on today that will increase my business and my money?
- What can I add to my life today, to create more revenue streams right away?
- Who or what else could contribute to my business?
- Where can I use my money so that it makes more money for me?
Start asking these questions every day and notice what differences begin to show up. Maybe some unexpected opportunities will show up, maybe you will notice that you are less reactive in certain situations than you were previously, or that the people around you start to change.
3. Throw out the wish list
Have you ever had a wish list? Have you ever played the “if I win the lottery” game? Where you sit around and think about what you would do and how you would live if you landed a winning ticket? Wish lists put your life on hold. Wish lists keep you waiting for something that may or may not happen in the future. This year, throw out that wish list and start a create list instead.
Wishing for something to occur is not the same as creating it. Creating requires you to actively choose. Creating requires you to commit to your life.
If you reject the perspective that you can’t acquire what you want and actually start to take action and create it, you open your mind to opportunities.
4. Have FUN
Are you having any fun? Would you like to? A big part of creating this year as your best year yet is choosing to have fun. What if even the topics of money and business could be much less serious and way more fun?
Would you be willing to let go of what others have impelled on you about money and business and with a sense of curiosity, start asking questions? You could start by looking at what you enjoy doing. What IS fun for you?
Grab a notebook and jot down everything you’re passionate about and love doing. Grow the list and make a habit to do those things each day.
This is your life. It’s not a dry run. Live it. Enjoy it.
