Many restaurants and coffee shops around the world will sell packaged drinks that people can take with them. In the past, many companies would provide customers with Styrofoam cups that were affordable and were designed to maintain an ideal temperature. However, Styrofoam has continued to show that it comes with different health and environmental hazards. A better option today is to provide customers with biodegradable cups, which offer a variety of benefits compared to other options.

Biodegradable Products Limit Waste Accumulation

Landfills all over the world have continued to grow and near capacity, which is causing environmental challenges. Part of the problem is due to the historical use of Styrofoam cups, which do not break down easily and will sit in the landfills for a very long time. When you serve a biodegradable cup to customers, you will know that you are helping solve the problem. A biodegradable cup can be easily recycled and turned into another cup or product. Even if it is not recycled, the cup is easily composted and will break down naturally.

Safe to Use

Another benefit of providing biodegradable cups is that they are safe for people to use. There continue to be health risks and hazards that come with the use of Styrofoam and certain plastics. When you drink out of a cup that is biodegradable, you will know that you are drinking from a healthy and safe container. These cups tend to be completely chemical-free and will even have a plant-based coating.

Affordable for Businesses

Over the past decade, a lot of strides have been made to ensure that biodegradable products are affordable to ensure cost is not prohibitive. Today, these cups are often made of products that are abundantly available including cornstarch, some sugars, and paper. These are relatively cheap materials to use, which is a cost-saving that is then passed on to the purchaser of the cups. In many cases, they are actually more affordable than traditional plastic or Styrofoam options.

Reduction in Fossil Fuel Usage

An additional environmental benefit that comes with the use of a biodegradable cup is that they result in less fossil fuel usage. Plastic and Styrofoam cups require a lot more oil to be used in the production of the products. Given the amount of coffee that is consumed around the globe each day, switching to cups that do not require the use of oil could help reduce the reliance on fossil fuels.
