Princess House, a leading kitchenware and home décor company, is achieving record-breaking results. With an independent consultant and consumer base that is over 80 percent Latino, we’re sharing tips from five of our top entrepreneurs to mark National Hispanic Heritage Month (September 15th-October 15th).
According to the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics, the number of Hispanics in the civilian U.S. workforce more than doubled, from 10.7 million to 25.4 million workers between 1990 and 2014. Moreover, the growth rate of the number of Hispanic civilian women in the labor force saw a spectacular rise (157 percent) compared with their male counterparts (124 percent) in the past quarter century. These changes resulted in a doubling of the share of Hispanic women among female workers (from 7.3 percent to 14.7 percent), and an almost doubling of the share of Hispanic men among male workers (from 9.5 percent to 17.7 percent). The Pew Research Center projects that the Hispanic population will continue to rapidly grow, such that by 2050, Hispanics will represent nearly 30 percent of the total population. (Source: BLS)
This summer, the Direct Selling Association’s (DSA) Diversity and Empowerment Council hosted an event on Capitol Hill exploring the sector’s growth and opportunity for Hispanic Americans. Industry executives discussed the significant impact of Hispanics on direct selling and the positive impact direct selling has on Hispanic consumers and salespeople.
We were proud that Victoria Vilbrandt, the Vice President of Marketing Strategies & Solutions for Princess House, was one of the event’s featured speakers. She spoke of the varied motivations salespeople have for becoming involved with direct selling and highlighted the positive stories of Hispanic distributors who have found direct selling to be a path to education and a means of providing for their families.
“Direct selling enables Latinas to perhaps stay home with their kids while earning an income, give the ability to supplement their family’s income, said Vilbrandt. “Or provide the opportunity to develop personally while empowering others to succeed, where they couldn’t find elsewhere.”
Special guest U.S. Rep. Tony Cardenas (D-CA) concurred that, for Latinos, direct selling can be the American Dream — but direct selling is also the Human Dream. Of greatest interest among attendees was the inherent one-to-one nature of direct selling and how that resonates with Hispanics.
Among 25,000 consultants across the U.S. and in Puerto Rico, our independent Princess House Latina powerforce is second-to-none in what they bring to their home businesses, communities and families.
Here are tips from five inspiring Latinas, and the principles they demonstrate, as featured in my book Fearless Living: 8 Life Changing Values for Breakthrough Success. Their stories showcase the circumstances that helped them along their personal journeys and illustrate how they faced their fears, stepped into the unknown and courageously embraced their future:
- DETERMINATION
Aida Vargas: “Make it All About the Pancakes”
Aida launched her direct-selling business at a local church bazaar in Bellaire, Kansas. She knew that people would fall in love with her Princess House skillet if they saw it in action. Her simple plan was to let people fall in love with her Princess House skillet by seeing it in action as she made pancakes. Her simple plan worked, proving that determination is the recipe for success.
- ACCOUNTABILITY
Tatiana Cussianovich: “Take Your Office with You”
Tatiana was a long way from her home in McDonough, Georgia, taking care of her sister in Peru, when she realized she needed to be creative in managing her home business from far away. She used the internet and social media to keep her business moving forward from a continent away, demonstrating how important personal accountability is to a successful home business.
- DRIVE FOR RESULTS
Araceli Morales-Avila: “Go the Extra Mile”
Araceli Morales-Avila moved to Farmington, New Mexico from Oregon and successfully re-booted her leadership role as a consultant for Princess House. Her drive for results led her to finding the formula to repeat her success – even 1,000 miles from home.
- PASSION
Lilliam Melgar: “Inspire Others”
Lilliam Melgar’s passion as a leading consultant inspired 10,000 women to gain their own success as independent consultants for Princess House. Her passion to help women improve their lives has in turn, enriched her own, that of her family and team.
- COMPASSION
Estela Valdez: “Turn Compassion into Action”
Estela Valdez is dedicated to sharing her success with those less fortunate. Her Stockton, California business as a consultant for Princess House gives her the financial resources to be compassionate to others in meaningful ways. She has mobilized her team of consultants to help more people every year.
Estela, Lilliam, Araceli, Tatiana and Aida are role models for all women in setting great examples for how to build successful home businesses.
