Here’s How to Take Care of Your Electric Vehicle

Electric vehicle

Let’s start off by acknowledging the fact that there has not been anything as disruptive as the introduction of electronic vehicles in the automobile industry. Buying an EV has become quite affordable accounting to the tax relaxation provided by various states across the world.

If you own an EV or are planning to buy one anytime soon, it’s important to get your hands on some tips that can be helpful in its maintenance. That being said, let’s get started with a discussion regarding the care of your beloved electric vehicle.

  • Do not forget to set timers while putting your EV on the charge

Many times, you put your EVs on charge and in the race of time doing everything before deadlines, you forget to unplug the charging system. This might lead to overcharging of your battery, causing an eventual lack of battery life.

This is expensive and costs you an increased bill of high-priced electricity and it might also cost you a new battery for your EV. Using a trusted charging station is recommended to charge your battery, as you can put timers and set durations of charging.

  • Avoid overcharging your battery so as to leave some room for regenerative charging

One of the most prevalent reasons for the reduced battery life of the smartphone is charging them to their maximum capacity and then draining the battery fully. Lithium batteries are sensitive to overcharging and draining completely.

If you charge your EV to almost 80 percent and do all your usual traveling, it will serve the purpose and also give way to regenerative braking. Regenerative braking is a process in which your battery is introduced to new electrons when there is retardation force working on your car.

  • Put your EV in mountain mode while going uphill

Switching your EV to mountain mode switches the car’s energy consumption from battery to the gas engine. This prevents deep discharge of your battery which will eventually lead to decreased battery life and also will provide enough battery when you are done climbing the steep mountain.

If you know that you have a steep mountain climbing on your route, you should switch to this mode beforehand.

  • Avoid using the quick charge whenever possible

Quick charge is definitely a convenience but your battery might fail and you might have to pay a huge amount for that. Quick charge is recommended only when you need to access the services of your EV, but on a daily basis, normal charging and home charging stations at home can be employed.

Using normal charging for daily purposes will lead you to be able to use somewhere around 80 percent of your battery after 10 years of use, but if you quick-charge your daily battery needs, you might only be able to use around 70 percent of the battery after 10 years.

  • Park thoughtfully without putting pressure on the thermal management system

EVs have an inbuilt thermal management system using air or water. On a hot day, you would not want to park your car out in the sun and make the thermal management system run continuously so as to cool the car.

Some cars are functioned to turn off the thermal management a few minutes after the car is parked and to remain like that until the car is switched on again. This can heat up the car’s battery and lead to reduced battery life.

Batteries are more sensitive than your cars. Not a lot of people know this; to make full use of your battery, charge it very carefully. These electric vehicles are no longer a far-fetched reality and have made their way to the developing countries as well.
