How to Determine If You Should Move or Not

If you are not happy with your life, it is your responsibility to change it. Some of us will settle for what we think is right and acceptable. We are afraid of the idea to change anything because we think that change can only bring worse things into our lives. What if we fail? And what if we succeed? Because we are all terrified by the idea of moving on, we choose a compromise.

It is simple. If you are unhappy with your job, just quit and move on. If you are unhappy with the people you are surrounded with, leave that “toxic” environment. If you are unhappy with your love life, just end it and move on. If you are unhappy with your life path, take any turn possible. If you are unhappy with how you see your life, try looking at your life from a different perspective. And if you are not happy with your city, just move.

When I think about it, the sum of all the things I’ve mentioned can inspire your move to some other city. You just snap and start searching for the right moving boxes and packaging supplies. Don’t let yourself get stranded with comfort zones and safety nets. The comfort zone will only make you stagnate and that is not good when the rest of the world is moving like crazy. You might lose the race.

Familiarity is excellent but don’t get too attached to it. It will make you stay in one place. And this is not good because life has to keep moving just like water to stay fresh. Running water is fresh and when water stays in one place for a longer period of time, it becomes polluted—a swamp. There is life in it, but it is filthy and it stinks.

A little risk and uncertainty can go a very long way. If you are only staying because you feel like you are safe and secure, you might be missing a lot of opportunities somewhere else. Re-think your decisions. Well, just start thinking because it is not a good time to move (because of this virus and all).

Staying comfortable all the time is bad because you stop conquering all those wonderful things that are standing outside of the comfort zone. I said “all the time” because you have to be careful about this one. You don’t want to burn out, but just change a thing or two in your life. Like furniture, electronics, people around you, environment, or the place you call home.

10 Questions You Want to Ask Yourself Before You Decide to Move

If you are uncertain about what to do, you might ask yourself a few important questions. We made a shortlist of those questions and we hope that you will make the right decision in the end.

1. Is Your House Getting Too Small?

Your family is growing. You decided to work from home, but the entire family has to squeeze in there as if they were some sardines. Whatever the reason, the idea of a bigger home includes more spacious rooms, storage area, taller ceilings, a larger yard, etc. If this is the case, then start packing your bags!

2. The Commute

Nobody likes a long commute. It takes too much time out of your day and that time is a valuable time you could be spending with your family or pursuing some personal goals. Maybe you should downsize to a smaller house instead of losing all those hours going from point A to point B.

3. A Better Neighborhood for Your Children

You want the best for your children. You want to raise them in a neighborhood with great schools, parks, bike trails, playgrounds, etc. If you think that your current neighborhood does not fulfill all those requirements, move.

4. Mold or Bugs

Sometimes you can’t solve these problems. There are different solutions, but if you have done what you can or spent a lot of money and time on professionals and you still have these problems, it might be the right time to move. That is literally a toxic environment for you and your family members.

5. A Better Job

This is a no-brainer. A new job offer or the opportunity to relocate for your current job is the perfect reason to relocate. The employer might even decide to pay all the moving expenses for you.

6. You Can No Longer Afford Your Current Home

Higher taxes, decreased income, and some other factors may make you start searching for a new home. There is nothing embarrassing with this one. There are all kinds of potential solutions to this problem like finding a new (better) job or a smarter cost control, but you could also consider moving. A less expensive house is extremely effective if you want to save money.

7. The Entrepreneurial Spirit

Location is very important for entrepreneurs. Some cities are good for tech startups, others for new restaurants, shops, etc. You should think smart if your passion is starting a new business.

8. Too Much Noise

You don’t want to live in a noisy neighborhood with too much traffic, smog, growing crime rates or some other issues. If this is the neighborhood you are currently living in, move on! You don’t need this!

9. Health

Your health is your primary concern. This is a great reason to move. Either people move closer to some better medical treatment facility and better healthcare or move because their current climate is bad for them. Health problems are a serious reason to move.

10. Friends and Family

Better school or a great job opportunity may be a good reason to move away from your friends and family members. However, you should also start thinking about moving closer to them. For example, if one of your family members or friends falls ill, your paycheck loses any weight it had prior.

If you really must go, and you can go, then pack your things and move on. Go out. Have an adventure. Live your life. Start a new life. Search for a place you want to visit, or a place you might want to call a new home. This is the best time of your short time, so use it wisely. You should know that home is where your happiness is. Make your own happiness. Do it now.
