Good Advice: Write a Blog! (But Where Do You Start?)

Workspace

Content is gold. Writing a blog about your business is still a good marketing tool. There is so much information about it, but how do you start? We give you 10 tips!

Writing blogs seems to be the best marketing tool nowadays. You tried one blog, but this week you forgot to write the next. You think you don’t have the time and the inspiration to blog regularly.

Mostly it is because you don’t have a plan. Also: you don’t have a clue who you are writing for or what you have to write about. Start by getting the answers to these questions and take advantage of these tips.

1. For who?

Who are you writing for? It is the main reason you write a blog: for your public. And if you want it to grow, you have to delve into your audience. What is their problem? What are they looking for? Do you have the solution? (this is the main key).

2. Be personal

Even if you write a business-story, be personal. Speak directly to your audience. It is between him or her and you.

3. Keep it simple

Don’t write a text full of emoji’s or otherwise. You’re a serious blogger and you write. It’s all about letters and words. You write a real story.

4. Don’t forget a picture (a good one)

A photo is immensely important. Choose an image with good quality. It’s usually the first thing people look at. Then they start reading.

5. Write regularly

Make a schedule (content planning) and write. Even if you are traveling, grab your laptop and (translated to Dutch: laptoptas) out of your shoulder bag (translated to Dutch: schoudertas) and write. Write form your hotel room, when you are on a train. You can write everywhere. Your audience counts on your new blog every week or month. Keep them posted.

6. Don’t write too much

Write a good article, but keep in mind that people do not have a lot of time. Keep it interesting, write in paragraphs and subparagraphs, use bullets, and images. It must be easy (and quick) to read.

7. Be realistic

Don’t exaggerate your business. Stay realistic and be honest. Go for quality instead of quantity.

8. Who are you?

Tell your readers who you are. They want to get to know you. It’s a way to be personal (advice 2!) and people will be reacting more often.

9. Stay inspired

Keep a notebook in your shoulder bag and write down every new idea. When you have no inspiration you can always take a look in your notebook.

10. Don’t be technical

If you sell wine fridges with 2 zones (Translated to Dutch: wijnkoelkast 2 zones), tell people all about it, but do it in an interesting way. They don’t want to know all the technical details (if they want to know that, they can read the manual with all the instructions). They want to hear about the benefits and the look of it. Not how the motor works.
