Should a Church Be Run Like a Business?

Although churches are supposed to be humanitarian and divine institutions, they need to stay afloat monetarily. While that may seem somewhat offensive to some people, those who actually have to run a church know how difficult things can get. While the spiritual nature of the institution can never be undermined without sacrificing the very essence of such an establishment, the truth is that a church on earth needs a constant flow of money to do all of God’s work that it’s supposed to do.

Whether you are a pastor who is conflicted in regard to whether or not you should implement a few business ideas in your church or you are a devout follower having trouble coming to grips with your church’s new policies, read on to understand more about how you can use business tactics to bring in more revenue for your church.

Taking Care of Your Own

The people working for the church are just that, they are all people. If there is no motivation or incentive to put in all the effort that they do, it can be quite hard to keep performing well as a church. The basic idea in the minds of most outsiders is that the people associated with a church should not be making too much money. However, the idea that God’s work should only be done by people who are economically struggling sounds like a stereotypical and regressive mindset. The staff working for the church have families too and it only seems fair that they enjoy a bit of prosperity as well in return for their devotion, love and commitment to the church.

The Responsibility of a Leader

Every leader of a church has to worry about multiple responsibilities all the time and a majority of them involve financial resources. For example, the church was expected to get ready for Easter just a few days ago. During this time, the leader of the church has to arrange for everything, including the payment of salaries of the staff, the rent, and care for the children and maintenance of the church itself; all of which require a steady flow of money. In order to do all of this and more in the future, the Church needs to have a business wing as well. Talking about money problems or asking for donations all the time can be very irritating and bothersome for your flock. Instead, concentrate on treating the fiscal matters like a proper business akin to what every responsible leader everywhere does.

Spreading the Word of God

Spreading the Word of God with humanitarian work is the responsibility of every ideal Christian but when you try to do it as a church, the responsibilities are far greater. Starting a ministry doesn’t really require much except enthusiasm, a strong belief in Christianity and love for your fellow human beings. However, once the realities and difficulties of such an endeavor begin to pop up, funding once again becomes one of the most important and necessary resources to keep the ministry going.

The bottom-line is that if the expense of a church exceeds its funding, the church won’t be able to function like it’s supposed to and may even have to be shut down eventually. To make matters easier, now individuals can even give to the church over text message! A church with a business wing isn’t an “unholy” institution; it’s a real world establishment with some serious potential to do good in the world.
