No Longer Living on Rice and Hot Sauce

Woman Entrepreneur Helps Home Business Owners Generate More Revenue and Gain More Free Time

It was very inconvenient, at 22, to realize Danielle Cuomo could never work for other people. She hated working to make someone else rich, and she is a person who likes to rock the boat and suggest change.

Danielle was unfulfilled, working 80 hours a week and still had to scrounge up change just to purchase gas for the car. There was one particularly low night, that she remembers, when the only she had in her house were an old pack of brown rice and hot sauce. Danielle’s bank account was overdrawn. School loan lenders were calling her weekly. It was incredibly sad. Danielle eventually got laid off — despite always trying to learn 10 new things everyday and staying at the office until 9pm. She tried to find the silver lining, and this was it: She was young, fearless and never missed a chance to work. It was now or never — Danielle was going to start her own business from home.

Danielle started her business, Virtual Assist USA, on the dining room table of her 1-bedroom apartment, with a computer that she purchased with borrowed money from her Nunni (Italian grandmother). Virtual Assist USA is a Virtual Assistant firm. “We slash employment costs for home-based businesses and offer the owners a chance to work with a top-quality, innovative team,” says Danielle. The company specializes in Internet marketing, web design, social media management, and public relations. Per Danielle, her company’s goal is “to work with home-based business owners to help them generate more revenue and gain more free time.”
There were many nights that Danielle stayed up until 4am and even more nights that she didn’t sleep at all. But none of that mattered to her. She was building her own business, from home, and she was happy. Danielle’s first client was achieved through sheer begging, but in 6 months, her company grew to having over 30 clients and 9 employees. 80% of Danielle’s clients were coming from referrals — and she made those referrals even easier for people to make by creating a document on how to refer Virtual Assist USA.
Her best business achievement? “It’s not that I quadrupled my income,” says Danielle. “It’s that I no longer live on rice and hot sauce.” HBM
