Husband and Wife Start A Home-Based Health Business

Husband and Wife Join Forces to Work a Health Improvement Business Together

Jim is a military and commercial airline pilot. Heidi is a stay-at-home mom of four and has traveled to multiple duty stations with Jim during their 20-year marriage. They now live in San Diego, California and enjoy working their growing home-based health business together with the company, Take Shape for Life (TSFL).

Jim was told his blood pressure was too high on a visit to the military flight surgeon. With Heidi’s help, he lost 30 lbs and reduced his blood pressure. Heidi had struggled with her weight after having four children. “After I lost 75 pounds with TSFL, I decided to be a health coach,” and Heidi launched her own business. “Healthy clients are walking billboards, and their new attitudes and bodies generate continuous new clients. People want to know if the program works (yes), if they can do it (yes), and if we will help them (yes).”

With the business growing rapidly, Jim joined her to manage growth. Jim says, “Compared to flying front line tactical fighters or a planeload of folks safely across the continent, it is even more satisfying to know you are making a change in someone’s life.”
A desire to make a difference and to help with family finances brought Heidi to the program. But the biggest benefit turned out being able to work from home. Heidi can stay home with her two youngest kids, participate in school activities, and do volunteer work. They have a special needs son and support the Food Allergy & Anaphylaxis Network.

Working part-time, Heidi provides free coaching services. She notes, “The health coach is a unique approach and can help people achieve results with support, caring, and cheerleading - to celebrate success over type II diabetes, high cholesterol, or a weight problem.”

Thus far, Heidi and Jim have been able to grow their business through personal networking and referrals. As growth continues, they plan to expand into other forms of marketing and to move into more of a managing role as they help others build their business — and fight fat, too!
